Wapititalk1 and Swede, Out of Office.......

Postby WapitiTalk1 » 07 12, 2017 •  [Post 1]

Well, I'm/we're off to the Gem state tomorrow morning early (scouting, trail clearing, and even some TS site prepping for the pending Elktember archery season) and will be out of cell/internet service for 3-4 days? The remaining MODs will keep an eye on you rabble rousers to ensure you don't get out of line ;). OK, no bad language, no spitting, no drinking in public, no cashing of bad checks, no putting lit firecrackers in the mouths of sucker fish and throwing them off a bridge (who in the heck would do that?), no staying up past 10:00 PM, and no harassing of any member of this forum or sponsor. I have somebody working the ADM board to sign in new members during my absence also. Have a good rest of the week and weekend and see you all soon. RJ

I'm jealous is an understatement!!!! Enjoy it!!! I got to go out for a few hours last week with the family to roast hot dogs and I could look right up the canyon where I got my elk last year. Wish I could spend some more time up in the mountains

Onward and "downward", LOL. Packed, locked and cocked. Anxious to clear some access trails, emplace some cams, clean up the traditional camp spot a bit, and give my friend Swede the grand tour in the RZR.....

Oh YEAH! Time to make some changes around this place! Saddlesore, you grab some paint (pink and purple is best), Indian Summer you grab the peanut butter. Lefty, can you get some more of that glitter you got last time that we forgot to use? Brent, can you get that frilly lace stuff that we planned for the....well you know. We will get this place spiffed up in no time! We are going to need a good welder I think.

RJ, you drive a Chevy? Really? We will organize a search and rescue team shortly, as odds are you are gonna need it.

Sure, we will behave ourselves. No problem. Everybody playing nice in the sandbox. Don't you worry about us, we'll be fine!

P.S. Have a good time fellas!

Lonnie,
That makes sense. I don't know why he would change it up just to hunt elk. At least that is what I have heard.

And I just noticed this. On the buttons above for putting in pictures, quotes, bold, etc "color" is spelled wrong. Did Wapitittalk just move to Canada, eh? You might have to hit "reply" to see what I mean....

All right, all right, I'm back you rabble rousers. Had a "very" good scouting trip to the Gem State this year. With the large snowfall/snowpack this year and reasonably wet spring, the vegetation/browse is out of control in the high country (taller and more robust than I can remember)! As Lamrith said, there will be some big fat, juicy elk this year ;). Put out a good handful of cams on the likely spots, saw a silly young, plump, coyote running and stopping on the road in front of the RZR, had a handsome three PT white tail buck hanging out close to camp, was assaulted by a few but not too many skeetos, had a night of unexpected rain and saw a fire start up (lightning strike I presume) across the big drainage from us, saw a few grouse, showed Lamrith a set of wolf bones, and helped locate and assisted in the preparation (assisted is over stated) a couple of TS sites for Swede and whomever wishes to sit in the other(s). Oh about Swede, well I'll tell you campers that he knows his stuff. I've never deployed the death from above method but really learned a good amount from the gentleman on this trip. Oh, by the way, I think old Swede may be part spider monkey..............

On the first night of our camp/scout, I was playing around with a tube that WRO sent me in the late evening from camp. Just really doing a couple of locator bugles to show off (grin) to my camp mates and who woulda thunk it...... right after nightfall, a bull started bugling not too far below camp 8-). Remember as Elknut mentions in his material, elk talk year round (obviously moreso during the SEP rut) but they do vocalize. I think the young bull was coming up to see who had made those sweet sounds a bit earlier and check his watch to see if he was late to the party :D.. It was a very product full and enjoyable trip.

Yep, nothing to see here while you were gone. We all behaved and the peanut butter stayed in the jar. well most of it did. Oh, and you can either pay the welding invoice when it arrives or make him a sponsor. I promise you it was well worth it for his work as he hardly discolored the paint.

And not to be a tattle tale, but I really wish Lefty wouldn't eat Pringles in the corporate jet anymore. He never vacuums up. I seriously wonder if he eats with his elbows.

"There aren't Mosquitos here.." RJ Failed on that one. No wait, he didn't, he had me, I was only one getting attention from them, Swede and RJ didn't believe me until I swatted one on my arm and showed him the boneless carcass.

Thankfully they were not tooo bad, not enough to carry a guy off, just enough to be a nuisance. Making a note to bring a face net for Sept..

I'm back. It was a great trip meeting and scouting with RJ and Larry. The area is all new to me, but there are elk there and I am looking forward to the hunt. I guess I am all in now as I bought my out of state license and tag. RJ said with my out of state tag I can shoot anything I want.......if it is a bull elk with visible antlers. hummmm?

Can't hardly believe you fell for the old "elk hoof on a vine maple stick tracks in the ground" ploy ;) . Enjoyed doing a bit of scouting with you also Swede. I'm pretty sure elk will join us for dinner this Elktember in the spud state. Sure enjoyed picking your brain about the death from above tactics during our trip. Perhaps, just perhaps, you'll come to the realization that elk still are vocal in some regions of the world. Oh wait, we had one bugling at us below camp in July :D. Glad you made it back to OR safe and sound. Oh, enjoyed talking to your brother on the trip also....... RJ

Seeing that Swede's brother was there, you sure that was a bull bugle and not Swedes brother snoring? I've heard him snoring in camp, even during the day, sounded just like an elk! 8-)

Glad you guys made it back. Looking forward to hearing how your season goes.

That's about the best pic of Swede I ever saw. Is that used toilet paper hanging out the back of his pants? Or maybe a parachute?

Ya, this is a picture of me captured on a trail cam I set up by my tent. Swede thought he'd pull a very early morning stunt by pouring water outside my tent and then stomping away..... he thought I didn't notice, but, I did and reacted accordingly (he didn't know I had cut an escape hole in my tent and low crawled out to get the jump on whatever was outside). Good thing it was just getting light and I saw who the supposed beast was who was whizzing/stomping by my tent.
