Bacon!

Postby WapitiTalk1 » 03 01, 2017 •  [Post 1]

Ahh, one of the major food groups for certain (and I don't care what they say damn it, its good for the body) :D. How do you fry your bacon; is it burnt to a crisp or somewhere in between an audible oink and the Idaho/Montana fire of 1910? What ways do you deploy this delectable table fare at your ranch....fried, crumbled in chili/soups, the always famous BLT (and C if you're doing it right), wrapped around steaks on the BBQ? Let's talk bacon here ;)

I use to eat too much of it. Crispy was the way of my parents.
My favorite was in my baked beans.
However I prefer quality honey smoked,.. well even the cheap stuff,.. a few inch long pieces about room temp. :?
I do jalapeno or something a bit hotter the pepperes baked first then stuffed as wrapped.
And BLT with good tomatoes and bread

I just don't think you can go wrong with bacon. I like it all levels of doneness and in every fashion I have ever tried it. One of the most interesting ways was thick cut heavy smoked, cooked with a thick coating of real maple glaze (think ultra thick polymer resin coated) then turbinado sugar dried into that. It was a bacon maple and sugar masterpiece!

Bacon, onions, garlic, venison heart or liver.

RE BLT: The C is for cheese, cucumbers, currants? Mom put peanut butter on BLTs to stick it all together. I include avocado on mine.

I don't get bacon at home very often. Once in awhile I order it at a restaurant or we have it in camp. Then it is preferably pepper bacon crispy.

i'm not much of a bacon fan, there are only a few ways i eat it

not sure what it is, but i love me some BLT's with avocado once in awhile

good on a cheese burger

and the thick, slab looking bacon that my sis in law buys in Eastern Oregon, we have with breakfast over there when we go is pretty good...but i don't think it would be as good here at home....something about a big high cholesterol breakfast with anticipation of shooting sage rats all day with no other responsibilities just makes it good memories, and in good memories, even bacon is tasty ;)

i was kind of hoping this thread was about wild pigs

I dont crumble it in chili, but chili is my specialty, if i have one. I always start of by cooking a mess of bacon in ghe pot just so i get ghe grease. The bacon ill snack on or set aside for breakfast burritos or salads. But i chop a ridiculously big pile of sweet onions, jalapenos, anaheim peppers and garlic, and i cook that mess down in hot bacon grease before i start adding meat, seasonings, tomatos and beans.

I love frying 3 pieces of bacon and chopping it up fine. then make mashed potatoes and add the bacon and poor the grease from those three strips into the mashed potatoes. :)

Definitely not crispy crunchy. And definitely not undercooked and rubbery. Just right in between. Kinda the same as my elk jerky.

I don't really understand the bacon epidemic. The stuff has been around forever and hasn't changed one bit. But all of the sudden it's sweeping the country like heroin. I love the stuff for it's original intended purpose which is right between the eggs and home fries or hash browns. Not interested in bacon burgers or on a chicken sandwich. Definitely NOT interested in chocolate covered bacon or bacon bits on a cupcake. I think the world is seriously going mad. People are like sheep. My 2 cents! I feel sorry for ham and sausage!

Now if you really want to know my preference it is maple bacon or maple sausage. That is as good as breakfast meats get. Key word though is "breakfast".

6 strips of uncooked bacon ran through the kitchen aid grinder. Mix with 1 pound of elkburger. Cook over the fire pit. My wife will leave work early if I tell her I'm cooking these for dinner.

Bacon is awesome.

My son and I like it "flubbery", my Dad insists that it be crispy.

Matched with pancakes, maple syrup, and eggs it is the best
