Off the Grid Gear "Thingamajig"

What do you carry in your day pack or all-in-one hunting pack that may be a bit out of the ordinary (off the grid)? Ya, we all mostly have a similar basic gear load for the day's hunt but what do you have in your pack that is a bit different and what purpose does it serve?

I carry a small handful of the reflective trail tacks. I don't plug them into every tree I see but I like to emplace them in a few key spots for location ID when I'm heading in/out of an area before/after daylight.

I'm not sure just how far off the grid this is but I never leave home without it. There is nothing like a hot cup of coffee or soup after a cool mornings hunt.

Those reflective trail tacks are amazing. I put some in trees years back. Four years later I walked into camp following the night eye tacks.

I dont cant think of anything out of the ordinary. Maybe a good egg sandwich. Diet mt dew,.. Extra toilet paper,. instead of ribbon
And now I get cell reception. When things slow down around 11:00 PM I'll send a pic and text to my bride,.. at home a few hours away

I have added a few things to camp,.. a solar security light

I don't know how many guys do something similar....but I do a lot of solo hunting and sometimes its tough wrenching those elk around.

I carry a small carabiner with a plastic screen door wheel [acts like a pulley] that doubles my pulling power. It helps solo with getting big meat bags high up in the tree too.

Ditto on the trail tacks. I carry a road flare. If you can't make fire with one, you are a pretty poor woodsman. Also good for getting attention in an emergency. 10x 10 3 mil plastic painters drop cloth. Now after this year, a jar of chile powder. Roll of orange surveyors tape for marking trail back to kill

I have seen that one too, very creative and cheap setup. A good bit of friction but for limited use it looks to work great.

I've been known to carry spam and potted meat as a snack. Potted meat is a small can of mystery meat that can contain tripe. One of the worst tasting snacks around.
Any more I pack hiking poles but only use them for meat packing or at night when my bow is on my pack.

We use a heavier duty Block and Tackle on our jobs with arborist 1/2" bull rope and the blocks (pulleys) from Baileys arborist supply. .... 4x pulling power with no friction.

Another weird items i sometimes carry: spices. I blend one for grouse that makes for a neat snack midday.

I also have one of those mini chock stick jigs for touching up BHs, knife etc.
