Personal Hygiene in the Elk Woods?

As it pertains to either base camp, or, backwoods adventures..... What measures (or methods) do you deploy to keep your stinky corpse somewhat tolerable to the wapiti and your hunting partners .

The scent free babywipe type things are awesome. They make big ones, brands like dead down wind etc. Wipe yourself down with a few of those in the morning. It will get you by for a while, save you from a freezing creek bath for a few days.

scent free talc powders, scent free baby wipes, sprays and a back country shower every 3-4 days (sponging off in between). I try to rotate out my gear spraying the "hotspots" down with scent killer as needed *we're in the back country 10-12 days

Merino wool keeps the odor away big time. And baby wipes as suggested. We do mostly base camps.

I stay in a camper now,but years when I packed in and had big wall tent, I still took a sponge bath every night as I do now.Also use Handi Wipes after every bowel movement. I change clothes every three days , and after I kill an elk.I colder weather where I stay cleaner,I Might stretch out clothing change to four days.

If it is warmer in ML season,I have shower tent and shower that I use about very other day.

I have found that if you stay cleaner,you will stay healthier.

Don't use a basecamp, only backcountry. Baby wipes are it.

I also only have a backcountry camp. One strategy I employ that hasn't been mentioned is changing clothes. I pack in camp wearing hiking clothes - lightweight synthetics that dry quickly and wick away perspiration. I bring two sets of hunting clothes. After wearing one set for a day, I hang it in the sun and wear the other. The UV rays really zap the scent... Bacteria also need moisture to grow and reproduce (and stink) so keeping my clothes (and skin) dry is a priority.

Basecamp.....I guess I'm a strange bird but I ain't crawling in no sleeping bag without a shower! If that means FCB so be it.
That being said because I'm in basecamp the luxury of a hot shower is always available. Always set up camp close to a creek draw water through the instant hot water heater and Bingo! I have been on backcountry horse back hunts but still gonna find me a place to take a bath/shower.

I fall under the category of disgusting or bad hygiene. You can decide, but when im in the back country ill stick to scent free baby wipes. Base camp or back at the truck I have all the things you need to smell pretty. Soap for hands, body and face. Tooth brush/paste along with a change of clothes and deodorant.

I sponge bathe daily head to toe. I wash critical areas twice a day. I avoid smoke and other contaminates like cooking odors when wearing my hunting clothes. I also spray my camo with scent stopper.

For base camp we bought a ZODI shower with 2 tanks it's awesome. It take about 1.5 gallons per shower. Also can wash dishes its hot.

For base camp; I bought one of those cheap solar shower bags. I fill it at home or the last gas stop prior to camp, lay it out or hang it where it can get full sun in the day while I'm out hunting, and come back to a nicely warmed up shower. I can usually get about 5-6 short uses before it needs a fill. I like it.
As far as packing in; I use merino wool, works great. I can also be found half neked by a creek washing off with a bandanna most mid-days. I can't stand being sticky from funk.

For basecamp, we use this Zodi Shower and it works great. We fill it up, put it on the coleman stove until warm, give it a few pumps and plenty of water for 3 or 4 showers.

One modification I did - splice in a longer hose with a sink spray head so the water is instant on/off and very convenient. We stand on a car mat in some dense Aspens and it is quite delightful

Here's my zodi, (prior to stripping down any un-necessary weight), I sometimes have to use aluminum foil for shielding for the pilot. since we pack in we all sacrifice a little bit of camp weight in order to have this joker. Nothing like a warm 3 gallon shower to lift your spirits.

I had a high pressure hydrant about 3 miles from camp when I hunted the desert.
I hooked a garden hose, stood in the back of the pickup and blasted the stink away. Other times I had water barrels in the back of the truck, stood on the truck floor mat , siphoned water to shower.
Ive heated water on a stove.
Sunday mornings , Ill put a 64 oz bottle of water over the defrost vent ,.. stop somewhere deserted start by washing my hair and upper body. Standing on a truck mat wash and rinse down below,. Comb my hair and I dont look like I just came out of the woods when I get to church.

More often than not in the evening when I get back to camp ,it is the first thing I do( because it will be getting colder, if I m warm I ll wash with th 64 oz of water, just like Sundays morning. . If I didnt work up a big sweat its wipes . I did use a weed sprayer one year but a jug of water works fine

Dry them out, put them in a ziploc bag, then re-hydrate them with a little water when needed. They sell both small and large sizes.

Base camp hot shower and sock,shirt and underware wash. Bivy hunt with wipes or nothing at all. I can go many days without if necessary. Merino base works great for a few days w/o a shower. I constantly battle boot and foot funk with anti-fungal spray and wipes.

I have a little tube of liquid soap in my pack. Those hot sunny afternoons when nothing is moving is the perfect time to strip down and jump in the creek and take a bath.

So if you come across a big white beached whale laying naked on a large rock midday drying off- you found my elk spot. Chilly for about 15 min... but worth it.

I use to camp on a nearly unused track in the desert. In fact in over 45 nights camped ther only one vehicle ever came close to camp.
Just shy of 100 degrees in the shade of My truck. The tent with everything open was 121, and there wasnt water at " my hydrant."
Showering beside my truck , I hear a plane, So I thought. A pickup drives by, I had barely gotten shorts on, the gal on the drivers side, still saw,too much.
I'm sure they though I was one of those creepy desert rats

Years ago I often carefully took a bath late evenings in a cold mountain stream. Oly took some too. After a minute of splashing on that cold water, I had nothing to hide from anyone that might have been out in the forest. I learned it is better to take a sponge bath in the warm afternoon and risk a little embarrassment than suffer that ordeal. Lefty; there are worse things than looking like a creepy desert rat.
