Figured that would get your attention . Just wondering how you met the current guy, gal, crew you will be hunting with this Elktember (or Elktober, Elkvember for smokepole, rifle hunters)? Do you think you'll be hunting with this guy, gal, crew for years to come or do you plan on trading them in for a different model after this season . Just teasing about the last part... but as many know, finding good elk hunting partners is difficult at best. I've got a story but will wait till a handful of folks post theirs.

Ill be hunting solo, but have a list of friends i can call if i need help packing! Thats a 2 way street though. If im hunting and i get the call, i drop what im doing and go help.

My best hunting friend started with me years ago. It is a long story and rightfully begins when I met his mother. This hunting friend came along several years later, but was very small, so his mom and I nourished him along until he was about 2/3 of the size he is today. I think you get the picture already. Over the years I have hunted with quite a few other people, but none I have called "partner". Stringunner and his dad are the closest now, but we are independent and we come and go independently.
As all know I plan to join RJ and his friends this September in Idaho. I am looking forward to the experience. There are no commitments by either party beyond the one hunt. My objective is to fully participate in the hunt, and for all of us to have fun. Getting that 400 class bull RJ promised me will add a nice touch don't ya think?

I am also looking forward to joining forces and hunting together this fall, but, let's be clear.......I never promised 400 bulls mister. But, however comma....... this guy has your name on him (I physically saw "Swede" on his back) and he's eluded my run and gun tactics for two years. He's yours for the taking.... you "know" the small draw he resides in (it starts with an "M"). Your move Swede

i'm a selfish hunter, I hunt solo until I fill my tag....then help friends and family....that has left me packing out a few elk by myself, but even that is fun alone....my favorite thing about the woods is the solitude, and separation from the rest of the world. any time i'm hunting with others, i'm not shooting.

used to hunt with a small crew, but their hunting style wasn't a very good one for actually killing elk, jumping a herd of elk 6 times in a day is not a successful day

I like taking my time, moving at my pace, making my decisions, and leaving if my odds of spooking them are better than killing one. Now more than ever, it's important for me not to bump elk I want to shoot, they can disappear for good pretty easily, or get pushed onto timber company land that is closed for fire danger all season.

I know there are people out there that would be great hunting partners, but I think they are very rare...a crew that is equal opportunity, and not selfish at all is tough to find.

I've wanted to travel west to hunt Elk for years. Finally with 3 weeks of paid vacation, and a decent paycheck every fews weeks I got my act together to go. I actually out in for CO pp 2 years ago and forgot to get another last year.

I will be hunting solo, but have a relative in MT who is helping me with a ton of info on the area and elk. We sopke a couple time a year over the phone but that was about it until last fall. I contacted him and told him I was ready, he has been a huge help so far. He even offered to let me use his cabin and some gear if needed. I will camp for a few days, then break to the cabin for a good shower, then head back to camp..
He has killed 49 elk in his hunting career and plans to tag along on a couple hunts, that would be awesome to learn some things first hand from an experienced elk hunter.

I have 1 friend who is more like a brother that may decide to go with me this year. Guess we will see what he decides.
It would be nice to have some company for the ride out and back, and hopefully some help packing the meat out!

My boys are 13 and hope to take them along in the next couple years. It may sound selfish, but I wantdx to get my first western hunt in this year and gain some experience before I bring them.

Marks Marauders 2016

I've hunted with over a dozen guys. These two are two of the best. Last year was there first trip west to hunt elk. They both have said numerous times it was a life changing experience. Zach, the guy with the recurve loaded up a pack with 2 fronts and 2 loins and took off down the trail. I'm hoping to spend a lot more hunts with these guys and their families.

I work with Zach and we had been discussing archery hunting for a couple years. When the stars aligned for an archery hunt last year he was the first person I asked. Mark works with my wife and has got it done on some nice whitetails. He seemed like he would be a good fit and he had expressed interest in hunting out west if I ever had an opening. I asked him if he would be interested in an archery elk hunt and he was all in.

I've only hunted with my partner one other time and we both killed elk. But I know him really well. He went to Royal Tine guide school way back when and I hired him green to train under me as an apprentice and become a guide. He worked for me in Montana for about 5 years. Very solid partner. Level headed and hard working. Very dependable. He missed last year because he had a bouncing baby boy which about killed him. He is very good with horses and is young and in great shape both of which help me out right! This year his uncle is accompanying us. I never met the guy but he has a few elkless elk hunts under his belt so I'm looking forward to helping him get it done. If my partner says he will work out fine I have no doubt that he will.

Next year's partner was a former client. He booked hunts with me about 8 years in the Bitterroot. He became a good friend and has killed his share of nice bulls. He is one of the luckiest hunters I know. Bulls commit suicide just to hang on his wall.

One of his best qualities is the fact that he has 4 points in Wyoming which guarantees my license in the cheaper regular draw. What a guy!!!

My one hunting partner has quit hunting due to bad hip.I hunted with him for 25 years. My current one,I have known for about 40 years. I worked with him all that time and he is a neighbor that lives two lots away from me. Over the years,we have hunted with each other several times.I think the first year was in1976.

It's tough to be out hunting when one of your good buddies can't be there.
