Colorado GMU 75

I have done some searching on the forum to see if this has been asked and I did not see anything. My target is going to be GMU 75 for elk using OTC tag for either sex. Now the part I am now unsure of is, I am tempted to put in for the mule deer draw for the same unit so that I can potentially have both tags in my pocket and will be prepared either way or get real lucky and land a dirt nap for both species (I realize the odds are not so much in my favor but hey its all a hunt). Has anyone done this and specifically for this unit? Any mule deer info for this unit that anyone would like to share I would appreciate it. I wish I could get out and scout more than I am going to be able to but I can't due to living in Texas. I do plan on getting one scout trip in September and a few days before season in October.

It's been many years since bought both tags.

1. I want to concentrate on one species.

2. I don't want t be packing out a deer when I should be hunting elk.

3.Once you have the deer in camp,you have to worry about keeping it iced or taking it to town to get it hung in a cooler when you should be hunting elk unless it is a later colder season.

4. Unless you have pack horses or mules and plan on carrying an elk out on your back,going back to shoot a deer is the last thing you will want to do.

I have hunted a neighboring unit that I saw the biggest mulies that I have ever seen. I am assuming you will be bowhunting so to me it would be a toss up. If you are like me it would be awful to have to pass on a great mule deer due to no tag. If you buy a tag you will not get an opportunity but if you do not, you will have the biggest mule deer at 15 yards. That is just my luck though. It is a hard call but I would concentrate on elk first. If you are rifle hunting I would get a mule deer tag for sure.

I would be rifle hunting. Timber I have the same exact luck.

I would get a mule deer tag then if you are rifle hunting. Like I have said, I saw some very nice mulies in that area. I would give you specific spots but I have already told someone else in this forum and his group is heading out this fall also....sorry.

That's understandable. I appreciate it any ways. This season can't get started fast enough. I take it you won't be hunting that unit this year?

No I am not hunting CO this year. Most likely a ID trip is in place or possibly a WY trip.

well put, agree 100%, when I'm elk hunting, I don't want to deal with a deer or bear
