Idaho Fish and Game Authorizes Additional Winter Feeding Sites in Southeast Idaho

The Idaho Department of Fish and Game (IDFG) with input from the Southeast Idaho Winter Feeding Advisory Committee (WFAC) has selected an additional 27 sites for baiting/feeding efforts in multiple counties in southeast Idaho. The total number of feed sites is now 89 (71 for deer, 16 for elk, and 2 for pronghorn). Over 100 volunteers are lending assistance to date.

My goose carcass pile had been feeding mostly magpies and a few straggler birds. We did have a bald eagle feeding for a week.
I saw pheasants running around corrals . Geese feeding in trees with an eagle overhead feeding with cattle and horses ,

How much snow is out there? What is a normal years snow average?

1949 was the last year that our area had this much snow.
This week we had a huge amount of sheet flooding. last week I plowed the snow away from the house before the melt. Rough week for some people.

If our horses could have made it to the fence, only the tops of some posts were showing .
A field I hunt geese in the surrounding fence was covered with snow last week. This morning over 1/2 the distance of the fence was completely covered with water
My dog walked over the 5 foot chain link in our back yard ( drifted) A week after this pic we had another big snowfall on the Snake river plain 5554 FT elevation

The top of that beam is97 inches above the ground, that a trampoline to the right

thankfully we had a big melt

And a dozen of the Fand Games estimate of 650 700 antelope that may not make it home
We saw about 350 this afternoon 10 minutes from our place

Pretty covered here too. And im now out of alfalfa. The fat little piggies were just going in the barn and helping themselves while i was in alaska (i left it open for them on purpose) and now theyve eaten it all and are hungry. They are not amused.

Yes, ended up digging it out 4 times. Was sliding into hood deep snow on the side of my driveway. High centered last time. All that shovel work was good exercise i guess. Guy across the street that ive never talked to came over and introduced himself and offered to plow my driveway for me with his truck. I owe him one!

Like you dont get enough exercise in your line of work. Glad u met your neighbor and he seems ok. Funny how things come around.

NOAA says that Washington state and Montana have had less than normal precipitation.

But then they are talking about investigating NOAA for falsifying the weather data that the Obama administration used to help push the Paris Climate Change Agreement so maybe they aren't all that reliable.

Personally I've seen more snow accumulation this year, I'm running out of places to push the snow with my snowplow. It may be that we've had less snow fall but the lower temps aren't letting it melt off in between storms like it has in previous years. We had temps that were in the -30 and -40 range this year as opposed to only -15 or so last year.

Dennis is that white-caps on the pond/field. Here in Minnesota the fields are mostly black with 50 degree temp coming this week. Coyote season is about done unless we get some snow.

Not that day we had one day and a 1/2 of 25-35 with some nasty hours of 50-60 mph. the snow went fast that day,.. about 800 geese on the upper end.
One thing overall we havent had much wind, cold and snow drifts didnt pack as tight.
