New Arrows

Ordered a dozen new Victory Archery RIPs to fletch up for the Darton Maverick II. Stats look pretty good on them and the color patterns are pretty cool. Have any of you cats shot the Victory Archery shafts before?

I have never even seen these arrows. The things they describe like .001 straightness factor and grains per inch which I understand look very good. Some of the technical terms they use are a little too much. Let us know how they work out. Did you need a bank loan to gather in a dozen, or were they more down to earth in that respect?

Price point wasn't heinous. I got the RIP Sport which I think we're .003? Will let you know how they shake out.

I've shot the VAP's. I liked em, hard hitting with a lot of penetration. The only trouble I found is that not too many, very few actually, quivers will hold em securely. I ended up shelving them till someone (Tightspot hint) comes out with a dedicated holder insert.

Seems that a lot of guys really like Victory arrows. I have never heard anyone say anything bad about them. I would suggest cutting about an inch or so off of the nock end and then cut to length on the other end. This will usually make a .003 arrow check out at close to .001 for straightness. The reason being, if there are any imperfections in a shaft, it will usually be in the very ends.

Also, Mathews quivers are adjustable for various diameter size shafts. But they only fit Mathews bows without some serious tinkering and rigging.

I think they tout that the yellow's are all spine tested and labeled accordingly from the factory, but since I just bought a dozen new carbon express I will keep those until I wear them out or grow another kidney to sell...

I've shot the V Force HV's and just bought the VAP TKO's to try. I like the Victory arrows.

I've been shooting Victory's for a couple years now for Wisconsin Whitetail. Solid arrow at a good price point. Looking to use them on Colorado Elk in September. They actually fit in my old Kwikee Kwiver.

Do those use an outsert? If so don't ever shoot them into a bag target. You also need to spin them weekly. If there is a full insert that will fit them I would stay away from any sort of outsert or half out.

Jason, they have what is shown in the picture below (pretty sure its the 15 gn insert). I'll only shoot into my Rhinehart target (no bag). What do you mean by spin them? Tell me more please, I'm not the smartest cat in the world on inserts. Thanks.

Those look like a half out of some sort. When I say spin them I mean put the arrows on a spinner and make sure they spin true. Any sort of outsert is very prone to bending, they will bend a little and then when you spin the arrow you will see a wobble. The block style targets for some reason are easier on them, if you shoot them into a bag you will be bending outserts weekly. If you don't have a spinner you will notice that your groups are starting to open up and you will get fliers.

These arrows are gonna be faaaast! You can tell by the fletching I'm installing. 4 fletch, 2" Bohning Blazers, slight right helical offset. Hoping a tree will stop these things after they blast through an elk

RJ, I would pay close attention to detail on those arrows. The inspector definitely looks like trouble if you are not spot on.
Why are your fletches so far from your nock? You don't shoot with a glove or tab do you? Maybe that is why you are getting the evil eye.

Ya, he's pretending he's munching on a bully stick but the look in his eye tells it all. "Is he letting each vane set long enough before starting on another (observing that the operator is using a single fletch jig), are all fletches equal distance from another, is he spinning those nocks 90 degrees to the fletches when done, is he putting a touch of glue to the fore and aft of those fletches to seal the deal"? Ugh, I hope I receive a good report.

12 pack 'o' arrows done. Looks like they'll weight right above 400 GNs with 100 GN tips and 425ish with 125 GN tips. A bit lighter than I've shot in the past but I figure since I'm probably only be shooting around 52-54ish LBs out of the new bow, they'll get the job done (remember, I have some shoulder/neck issues that are preventing me from drawing back the poundage I used to). I may still go with a heavier insert on the arrows but again, want to see how they fly with the current setup. The Darton should be back from Michigan sometime early/mid next week and once I get her set up, the fire arrows will be flying.

Wow! Those look slick RJ!
The smaller diameter will help with increased penetration at the lower draw weight too.
