Teaming Up for a Hunt.....

Well, after knowing the man, the myth, the legend Swede for close to five years (via the Elknut Form, now Wapititalk.com), and, meeting him at a Longview, WA hunting seminar last year, I invited Swede to share my elk camp this year. I'd known that he was digging around a bit for a potential new place to hunt this Elktember and decided to give him a ring. Wasn't sure if he'd be interested in traveling that far from his Oregon stomping grounds to join myself, Lamrith (also a member here), and an old hunting buddy of mine but after some phone chatter and a bit of terrain analysis at the home front, Swede agreed to join our humble camp in the Gem State this year. I'm anxious to learn a bit more about this tree stand hunting he seems to have written the book on (literally) and also excited to show him that yes, there are still places where the elk sing you to sleep each night. Let the planning begin. Wonder if we should start a poll on how the first elk will fall....... via tree stand or run and gun. Let the adventure begin

Well in all seriousness, I'm excited for you guys. I enjoy elk camp so much more now that we have teamed up with Oly and Swede these past several years. Hopefully Swede you are planning on hunting both states?

I too am excited about hunting Idaho. RJ tells me those bulls are real tricky where he hunts them, so I will warm up in Oregon for a few days. RJ and crew don't start as soon as we do in Oregon. I guess I will get to hunt two States for the first time. Well I hunted Canada and Oregon one year, but Caribou and elk are not the same. Both are fun, but elk are more of a challenge. The caribou question was do you want that one, or do you want to hold out another few minutes for something else.
RJ says they have Alder where he hunts. Like, can you see that elk 20 feet in front of you, Alder? Now, if I remember right; Alder comes with Devil's Club, that makes Alder look down right enjoyable. "The first one through gets the pint of blood we have in the cooler."

I wanna take a poll on who pulls the first practical joke! No wonder RJ has been Private Messaging me on ideas for jokes to pull in hunting camp. It all makes sense now. But RJ, don't pull the last 1 I told you about on poor ol' Swede....

Oh don't you worry SG, Swede will still be around plenty to keep us in line. You know what they say about when the cat is away.
Being able to take off a month or more for hunting is something you and I have to look forward to when we retire. Unfortunately for us that is a long long long ways away.

I am really looking forward to finally meeting you Swede and learning some of your tree stand hunting tricks 1st hand! I had a few spots I thought would work after reading your book, be great to see your thoughts on same spots.

I agree stringunner, good hunting camp is priceless and I am glad I was invited to Join RJ's camp. As much as I learned on here and other forums, I learned 2x as much from RJ and his buddy dragging my backside into alder choked elk canyons. I still shake my head at just how steep, thick and nasty these beasts hang out in. (Talking the elk, not sure I want to know the unmentionable places the hunting camp guys frequent)

Heh, RJ is pretty good, he managed to get me thru it somehow, course thinking back he was not in top form himself which is sort of scarey given how I was struggling to keep pace..

I have an exercise routine I go through all year round except when out hunting. It keeps me in pretty good shape. After seeing RJ's area and deciding to join his bunch of rowdy friends, I have picked up the level considerably. I am also cutting down on my weight. No kidding. His area is not for the sick, lame and lazy.

In other words I need to knock off the exercise, and fatten up some too. I never thought about it that way Larry.

That works too. I was thinking I might brush up on my laso skills so I can get a rope on one of those two clowns and make them me them pull me as they run.

Not sure what you're referring to mister. We hunted the flatlands last year but now with me feeling better this year and hopefully getting back to my old mountain goat self (thanks to a better sawbones and modern medicine) we just may be able to hit a few more of those up/down areas; rope and come-along optional

Not sure what you're referring to mister.
