Game Planner Maps Update FYI

Postby Game Planner Maps » 04 12, 2016 •  [Post 1]

Everything's back to normal

The Map Viewers are acting a little squirrely this afternoon.
Websites require updates from time to time and today's update didn't jive with some of our pages.
Only the pages that have Map Viewers are affected. The maps still work fine, but the data frames are a little smaller than before.
I'm working on restoring them to their former glory and anticipate all will be well within a few hours.

Sorry for any inconvenience.

I've owned businesses and like everyone else I'm a customer to all kinds of businesses owned by other people. I always say no matter how good you are the people themselves make or break the company. It's nice to know the guy you're giving your money to cares. Those are the ones you become a repeat customer to and tell your friends about.

It was sure nice of you to give us an update like that Ed. It shows you care. Take your time working out the bugs out. I guess I could do something else for a few minutes.

I just got this message when I tried to do a map: I tried several times?

The service you called did not return valid XML. If you are the system administrator, you should look into this, if you are not the system administrator you should tell them about this.

I'm going to put in a ticket to the service provider. Please stand by.

Ok so my expert got back to me and the XML error is most likely a result of the USGS base layers timing out.
It happens when the active base layer skips a beat or doesn't respond.

Unfortunately, USGS's services are less than reliable. They are free
and that's the best thing that can be said about them.

I hate to admit it, but this is one of the limitations of my system.

I placed an inquiry to USGS to see if I can get some info straight from the source. I'll report back IF I hear anything.

like you said, can't complain about a great source that is free,

I was only using one layer, FS roads on the topo map, it would go straight to the message without any pause, so I doubt it was timing out in this case, With computers, Who knows sometimes???

Again a great source, I am making maps of some areas I hunted last year and a couple more I would like to put shoe leather on the ground. I am ole school and prefer a map and compass to a GPS. LOL

When I order maps from the USGS Map Store it takes up to 21 days for them to ship. This past time it took a month! And they aren't free.

The service you called did not return valid XML. If you are the system administrator, you should look into this, if you are not the system administrator you should tell them about this.

This happened again, anyone else had this issue?

I'll get a hold of Ed and let him know you're having issues. I'm sure he'll chime in. RJ

I checked a few of the map viewers and they're working for me. If the problem is persisting try clearing your computers cache by tapping F5 while you have the map viewer open. Let me know what state map you were looking at and what browser you are using. Please email me: ed@gameplannermaps.com if you have further issues.

Viewer was working fine, just would not let me print. I was in Colorado, will try again in a few days. Thanks for the response
