Wyoming cow elk hunt 2017

Postby bowhuntermojo » 01 15, 2017 •  [Post 1]

Good Morning! I am just getting into the Wyoming hunting lifestyle. I live in Northern Utah and I am only a hop, skip, and a jump away from the Wyoming border (Evanston area). A year ago, I went on my first buck antelope hunt in Wyoming with my son. Both of us had an awesome time and shot our first antelope bucks! I have hunted deer and elk in Utah all my life and am just venturing out to hunt Wyoming. I figure that since we live so close to Wyoming that I could maybe start looking in to hunting it a little bit more. I have heard that there are usually some left over cow elk tags in some of the units that are closer to us. I was wondering if anybody would care to point me in the right direction or give me some advice.

Thank you,

We lived in Cache Valley (Idaho) then to Perry Utah, with close friends in Green River. Early season goose and antelope, until I got into archery .

Nothing wrong with going to Wyoming, Im sure you know there are some sweet pockets of big bucks and bulls along the Wasatch front, and east.

Be aware that Wyoming is considering changing how they do business with regards to leftover licenses for 2017. Instead of first come-first served, they are considering an application period (6/22 - 7/6) with drawing results available 7/13. Anything leftover after that will go on sale 7/17.

Make sure you look at the restrictions on those tags. If something looks too good to be true it probably is. For example lots of leftovers are valid off of national forest only.

Thanks for the heads up. I will be paying close attention to the regulations and such with those leftover licenses.
