Crazy Snow

Postby cohunter » 01 11, 2017 •  [Post 1]

Had the *ahem* pleasure of driving to Denver yesterday. Was astonished at the number of deer and elk in the Gunnison Valley (we saw hundreds of each or maybe even a thousand). If anybody is in the area, there is some easy viewing of deer and elk near the highway. Some big bucks and some beautiful bulls. That said, the snow over much of the area was chest deep on the deer and wet and heavy. Reminds me of the spring in 2009 or so when there was heavy winter-kill in the area. This may be another one of those very hard winters for the deer and elk. :(

Yes, although there were deer and elk on the south-facing slopes from Blue Mesa Reservoir to Sargents.
