Shameless plug for my my knives. See the topic below, here on this gear forum about "Elk Track Knives". :D

For a saw to take off antlers the Wyoming saw that Paul sells on his Elk Nut Store is the one to get.

I was going to remark,.. A knife that stays sharp

To add to Norms statement
Anyone who spends time making knives only uses good steel.

I use a Havalon knife for all of my elk chores.

No need for a bone saw unless I'm just going to take the skull plate. In this case, I bring a Wyoming saw in for the return trip. I don't carry it in my pack though since it's pretty heavy. If I'm doing a euro mount I can get that done with just a knife, so no need for a saw.

Ive quarted out two elk with the raptor razor knives. At first i was a little sceptical but after watching their videos on youtube and getting my hands on it. Wow, talk about making a big job go fast. As far as a bone saw. I just use the small Wyoming saw. A little heavy but with the two differnt blades i was surprised at how much i used it making ground blinds if i want to setup on a spot.

Like redtop stated, (Shameless plug for my own) LOL! I make my own knives but I'm not in the business of selling them.

You ask about a saw. Not really necessary to break down an elk, but if you don't know how to get through the leg joints or you want to cut the skull cap, a small Bahco Laplander will do either of those chores with ease. And it only weights 3-4 ounces.

I like ruana knives or anything with solingen steel. I use dandy saws. I have one that split 26 elk before it needed resharpening.

I switched to a Havalon and I've been impressed. 3 blades to break down and elk, put on a fresh one for camping at the end.

Used a havalon last year with good results, but I have upgraded to a couple knives from Norm (redtop). Have yet to use them on an elk, but they did quick work on a whitetail the day after Christmas!! If you are looking for a disposable blade type knife, you can't go wrong with a havalon. But, if you are looking for a knife that will last your lifetime and have a hunting tool to pass down to your kids/grandkids, I would suggest talking with redtop.
