Dad's 2013 Crossbow bull

Postby N2mywake » 12 20, 2016 •  [Post 1]

Hey guys, I'm new to the forum. I got into elk hunting in 2005 with my dad. We had intended on going on a hunt together back in the 80's but life gets busy so it turned into 10 years after college for me. We've been going on hunts every since. This was our greatest success, a Public Land Colorado Bull for dad. This was the year of all the flooding, it had rained on us 9 of 11 days on this hunt. This bull was taken in the rain on the morning of the 9th day of hard hunting. I've never been more proud or humbled to see a plan come together. to say it was an emotional hunt would have been an understatement.

Enjoy the pics.

Very nice bull. Is that an OTC unit? If so you guys did pretty well for yourselves.

Love the pedestal mount for sure!

thanks for all the comments. I built the stand for the pedestal out of some wood I had left over from a plank fence. This mount brings back a lot of memories and will eventually have a place in my home too. My dad couldn't be prouder or I of him. This wasn't an OTC unit, it was a draw unit on Wilderness ground. We usually do drop camps to get away from the crowds. I joked that I would get my bugle bronzed after this one.

We do mostly hunt Colorado, but I've also tried Idaho, but the area I hunted seemed devastated by wolves (Frank Church Wilderness-Middle fork area), not sure I'll go back there.

Great bull!! Just curious - how was your experience working with CPW for a disability waiver?

It wasn't a problem. Dad's issue is pretty obvious so his Dr went through the form (pretty thorough exam) and we submitted it to F&W they sent the approved waiver back. not an issue at all

Awesome that your dad still gets to enjoy the elk woods in the rut! I have a friend that I'd love to see in the woods - maybe one day!

Making memories for sure. I think the best part is all the preparation and planning it seems like we are talking daily about gear, etc. priceless for sure.
