Removing Marble Table Top?

Gonna remove a marble table top from the rest of a dining room table. Thinking the best method is to flip table upside down and use putty knife or wide chisel (and rubber mallet) to separate the glued marble top from the various spots it's adhered to the table base? If anybody has a better method on how to do this, I'd appreciate your thoughts. Thanks. RJ

Sounds like about the best option. Tough part will be safely flipping it over without smashing people or cracking the marble. ALso make sure ground is flat, no protrusions or rocks, and put a thick blanket down before you flip it over.

Have you tried to remove the top yet? If not try to find a spot between the marble and the base that doesn't have glue under it and put a shim there bt the two surfaces. The trick is to not push the shim in too far. You have to go little by little. Once you have the first shim slightly in move a couple of inches right or left and do the same process over again continuously pushing the previous shim in til it is tight as well. Continue this process until you have shims all around the table and eventually the top should pop off. No guarantees tho. You must be very careful with marble. That material is softer than you think. Ps I have a granite shop in Neb. so I have done this exact thing several times.

Tim, haven't started the project yet. Wife tells me it's a granite vs marble top. Not sure if that makes a difference in the procedure to remove? Thanks for the input folks

Same process for granite as well just be careful with either one as sometimes granite can be more fragile than marble.

Almost a year ago we started on my daughters house. To save the granite we removed the cabinet bases from the granite,.. totally destroying the cabinets. They were junk anyway. But the granite is nice, we did end up breaking the granite around the sink. But that was an easy fix

Depending on the type of glue used to put it on with, you might try using a heat gun on the glued areas then pry as Tim stated.
