Where to go for very late season hunt

Is there a place for a nonresident to go to do a very late season hunt (mid to late December)?

Prefer a DIY, but may be OK with semi-guided, etc.

Wyoming still has some leftover antlerless or cow/calf tags available. There's a reason that they are still available though... Very limited public access in those areas.

I'm looking to set up a trip for 2017, but my son is in college and doesn't get a Fall break.

We want to hunt bulls (which I guess would all have broken tines by that time!)

There are a few areas that have open rifle seasons into December/January for antlered elk (Type 1, 2 or General). If you're dead set on getting bull tags, most of those require at least one or more preference points to draw. Unless, you get lucky and get picked up in the random draw. Very long odds though. I've never tried to buy a leftover bull tag, but there may be leftover tags available that go on sale in early July. Based on how fast some of the cow tags get bought up, they probably go in a hurry too. Especially if there's reasonable public access. Your best bet to hunt December in Wyoming is a cow tag.

You can carefully peruse the Colorado regs there are a couple of late season rifle hunts on public land. If you go down south to the San Luis valley they have a very late almost into next year elk hunt, however that is all primarily private land so would have to get a guide for down there. The other places are one up near hot sulfur springs and one other place escaping me right now.

How late? Or.... what is the earliest date he can hunt? Wyoming gun seasons are all over the board. Some start in September and some don't end until mid November. Montana gun season for bulls is open until the Sunday after Thanksgiving and license are guaranteed. I know some other really late cow hunts into the end of December but nothing else for bulls.
