dusty bow this year

Well, i was going to fly home for archery elk season, but i decided to finish the job up here and i wont be getting off work until october now, so no archery season for me this year, ill be doing modern firearm elk instead. Not ideal, but now i can try to get a bull with my .460, and ill get to hunt both early and late deer. Ill be taking pretty much all of october and november off.

On another note, since i wont be hunting at my wallow this year, i told a friend of mine whos trying to get his first bear to go sit there, as the bears use it even more than the elk. He knocked down a dark chocolate boar this morning from 20 yards with his open sight 45-70. It was rolling in the wallow like an elk.

Good on you Dean for setting your friend up with a spot to get his first bear; I bet he's very happy with the chocolate! Good luck during boom stick season this year and be careful up there in the last frontier till you come back down south.

This is killing me. I should have flown home for archery elk season. Instead im still in alaska, and after a few weeks without a phone signal i get pics of everybodys dead bulls. My dad got a good 6x6, and a couple other guys i know got a 6x6 and a big hog 6x7. And here i am. 70 days in and still out west. Currently in naknek. Heres the old mans bull.

Well, went and checked a cam today at the spot i was planning on hunting archery elk season. Kinda figured itd be full of pics like this.

It starts tomorrow! Ill be up in that draw at daybreak. Its a spot the elk travel through year round. Gonna try to do it with my .460 s&w.

Not a damn thing moving in my elk spots. These last couple weeks ive been seeing so few animals per day in the woods its just mind blowing. I dont get it. Never spent so much time outdoors but seen so little wildlife. If i had a wolf tag or a bear tag id be golden, but deer and elk and moose are nowhere to be seen. Its creepy how dead the woods are. The whitetail rut cant start soon enough. With two more days before late whitetail starts ive decided to call elk season a wash and spend time solidifying my whitetail rut plan. Ive been hunting in the middle of heavy wolf activity for 2, almost 3 weeks, and ive seen little else. Definitelt no elk, where traditionally i see good elk activity this time of year. Even the moose that outnumber the elk 10 to 1 have vanished. Never experienced a season like this. Pretty demoralizing. Ive been keeping the wind in my favor and doing everything right. I even checked a couple cams in my usual honey holes, and not only are there virtually no elk, but also no moose and very very few whitetails. Im talking 12 days at a stretch with nothing bigger than bunnies. Its unprecedented. Guess i better adapt quick. I knew not flying home for bow season was a mistake.
