It was an interesting weekend

Postby ak32 » 10 03, 2016 •  [Post 1]

Went down to SE Colorado on an Antelope hunt, set up camp friday night. At dusk you could hear the bulls getting fired up with bugling and screaming in the distance. Basically this went on every few mins for the WHOLE night as they got closer and closer to our tent. When we got up in the morning, hiked in a mile or so from camp to glass for antelope. Wouldn't you know it, the elk were talking all around us, huge bulls chasing cows right in front of us at only 150 yards. Didn't see one antelope that day, but at least a dozen elk and lots of noise every minute or so. Basically I have never experienced such vocal elk that were almost oblivious to anyone around them like. Every archery season that I've hunted has been mostly silent elk. This was all on public land. Needless to say, it was a fantastic yet crazy experience for me and my wife.

FYI: We eventually found the antelope the next day :D

For whatever reason I would say that the elk have been more vocal here in Wyoming this past month than the past 45 years of hunting here. No idea why. But I sure love that sound.
