Ridiculous Excuses

This year I heard some more crazy excuses for NOT hunting. The first came from my son:
He said his kid and he were sick. Yes you read that correctly. SICK. Now everyone knows sick is a great excuse to miss work and go hunting, but I never thought anyone would use it to avoid hunting. I have had employees go to great lengths to stay sick for a few days, but this was a first.
The second goofy excuse came from Stringunner this season. His narrative was he had a new job and could not get away from work. Stringunner buddy! When you get a new job they are glad to be over that search for just the right employee. Everyone breathes a sigh of relief and goes back to their normal routine. So, you can miss a few days right from the start. When you get back to work, the boss will take you into his/her office and chew you out for awhile. Speaking from experience, that is no big deal. You are new, so you plead ignorance. They will give you 90 days to improve your public sector job performance, which is easy since you have set the bar very low to start with. You should have thought of that on your own. An old Swede should not have to tell you.
The third excuse, was so weak I hate to post it, but it came from my cousin. He had killed a good 6X6 so the hunt was over for him. He was bored with cooking and said his wife had a social meeting to attend. Even with all of the effort that could be mustered, he could not explain what her meeting had to do with him, but he insisted it was legit. I just gave up on that confusion and called my brother George over to camp. That guy has excuses too, but they were for all the right reasons. His was based on why he needed leave home and to come over to camp for a most of the hunt. Sadly my brother called me last night and had a dumb excuse why he will miss nearly half of my Hart Mountain deer hunt coming up in November. He needs to be in that rat race called Seattle for the first three days of our planned outing. Sick! Oh well I will take the time alone to hunt in the day, and surf in the hot springs there at night.

Does anyone have their own excuse or one that is on par with those I got? I hope no one gets the idea anyone of the three was leaving camp just to entertain better company.

North, I think you hit the nail on the head. lol We had a guy in are group who's brother in law passed away with 4 day left in are hunt and he did not want to go home early.

Our excuse too many sheep to many places.

My daughter also has an addiction problem,.. she likes to hunt deer. every day she got in on deer. Too many hikes in she chose to still hunt through deer country. Friday afternoon she took her 4 year old they "only saw 40 deer"

Ive had fellows I was suppose to hunt with use all sorts of excuses. Being sick too many times meant hung-over. Its easy to leave those guys home

What I know for sure is planning a hunting trip with buddies is very tough. Schedules, work, kids, school, wives...none of those are easy to schedule out. I'm just thankful to be able to take my son with me. I know his days of being able to go without having his own stuff going on are numbered. Then it's back to seeing if my wife wants to go...

The truth is that very few people can or want to stay five weeks out in the forest. Most folks can't stay that long. Then of coarse there is the question of who would want to? My son and Stringunner had very legitimate reasons for not hunting more than they did, but I enjoy harassing them. My brother doesn't hunt, so for him it amounts to long days around camp reading.

I must confess my own excuse for not hunting according to the plan I set out this summer. Having retired multiple times over the years I thought for sure I would not play in the Aspen Ruggerfest again. Two weeks before the tournament I camped with a few of the boys and decided one more year. August 15th, second half of first match I tore my bicep. Went home the next day to see Dr. They recommended Orthopedic opinon. Monday Steadman Clinic for Orthopedic analysis, no surgery required. I was assured that if I could draw the bow I could hunt. Only made the final Saturday of archery season and it snowed the entire time. I waisted the entire last week of hunting because I am haunted by Oscar Wilde's ghost "I can resist anything but temptation".

That is a pretty flimsy excuse js80. You could have tied your arrow onto a broom handle and made a spear out of it, or pulled your bow back with your feet. Anyway I hope you recover soon and are back in full strength next year. Don't let me hear that excuse again.
