my 2nd NM archery bull!!!!

This is my third year bow hunting and my second bull. Last year I got a spike. The cool thing is that I got my dad out there with me and we got into more elk everyday than we have ever experienced, plus he was there when I got this guy. It took me 6 days out of my 7 day hunt to get this guy on the ground. One thing id like to share with you guys to see if you have ever experienced is how the bulls would not just hang up at around 80 yards in the brush. But they were pushing spikes and cows to basically go recon for this cow I was pretending to be. This happened to me several times. The cows or spikes would find no cow or they would bust us and return to the bull which he would then walk away. But we saw no bulls with harems or anything like that. There was no vocalization at night, and the vocalization in the morning was from about 0700-0800, and thats it. Regardless the hunt was full of encounters and it was an awesome learning experience! I am glad that both my archery elk kills came so late in the hunt so that I would not miss out on these great lessons.
So anyway, I caught this bull coming into a water hole one evening. He busted me while I was drawing back and he took off. I started mewing real softly and he stopped looked at me, and then proceeded to return to the water hole to drink water. I hit him from 44 yards broadside. He went 150 yards before I heard him crash. Based on where I saw the blood dripping down his side when he stopped to look back and how soaked my arrow was in dark red blood I determined it was a liver shot. When we got to him he was upside down laying on his horns. He had bubbly pink blood coming out both sides, so it was a lung shot. But if both wounds indicated lungs, why was the arrow soaked in dark red blood? Just seemed real strange to me. But this is my bull, its hard to tell but he is a 5x6.

Great job 82nd! As for the dark blood the liver is dome shaped so you could have hit top of the liver and both lungs.

Great bull and great story; how cool is that to have harvested that will your Dad there too!!!

Definitely a fine bull. I like the color. The bronze appearance is different than what I normally see.

Thanks guys! It was awesome having my dad there, I thought he was gonna miss my kill cause he was often not going out with me in the mornings cause he was afraid of getting me busted which sucks cause he missed a lot of cool encounters. So he would just mostly hang out at the water holes with me in the evenings which were very productive too.
