Heading Out Toward Colorado in the Early Morning

I have been reading this site since the winter when I decided that I wanted to try a DIY elk hunt. I have my OTC archery tag and I will be packing the truck tonight and hitting the road around 4:00 a.m. tomorrow morning. I'm coming from Eastern PA and I have about 30 hours of driving ahead of me. If things go according to plan, I'll break the drive up over two days and look for a place to sleep tomorrow night in Missouri or Kansas.

Thanks for all the tips and suggestions over the past few months. I know the odds are against me getting one but I am in it for the experience more than the meat. I'll take pics and post results. If there is an cell service in Grand Mesa NF, I will post during the trip.

that's gonna be a long ride home, it's 29 hours for me from NJ, so I fly, I stage some gear at a friends house in CO

I got back from my hunt on Saturday. I was my first attempt an it was an OTC archery hunt on public land that I did solo. I did see 4 elk and other wildlife but I wasn't able to get within bow range. I did see a group who had taken a bull with a muzzleloader. The elk seemed to vanish as the week went on. The altitude got to me a bit and that surprised me. I thought I was immune to that kind of thing. Here's some pics:
