how are you stashing meat inbetween trips

Do you construct a meat pole away from the kill site? If so how high is high enough to keep the meat away from bears. We found some large rocks in a shaded part of the river. The were as cold as a refrigerator to the touch. Cooled the meat great. No protection from bears tho. If we would have hung the meat we would have just went back the next morning for the 2nd trip as we were wiped out from the first trip and it was late. What are you guys doing?

We just hang them where we can and put a sweaty t shirt around or buy the meat the sent should keep the bear away.

Same thing here...we try to get them up off the ground as easy as possible, using a big branch or a tree that has fallen onto another tree and then leave some clothing.

Idaho sent out info on handling meat in grizzle country. It was what we did when it applied to keep the birds and coyotes, Separate the meat and place in the shade/snow 100 yards from the rest of the carcass and hang the smelliest piece of clothing over the meat

I throw a space blanket over/around it too (also use as a ground cover while butchering). I imagine in works unless your in scout country in which case a bear might just think it's the mother of all tinfoil dinners.

Not well enough I lost close to 30 pounds stashing meat in plastic bags 40-50 yards from the carcass. Also saw 9 bears over the weekend not counting the one we scared off the carcass in the dark or the one I heard splashing around in the waterhole while I was boning out my elk.
