Choosing Diaphrams

So I've managed to lose all my diaphram calls sometime from last year to this year. That said I had some standard bass pro purchased calls, they were the Primo's three pack, so now time to get some new ones and I'm leaning towards Phelps unless you all convince me otherwise.

1. Seems like they come in three sizes, without having to buy one to try it out if the standard Primos fit fine should I lean towards the Medium size?
2. There are a ton of options for diaphrams, I'm pretty sure I'd just confuse myself on which one to use when if I got them all, any suggestions on what are necessities?

I'll be bow hunting in CO.

I like a cutter style turkey call with a light solid and heavy cutter. I start the bugle by pushing the air over the cutter and sliding to the solid side for squeel and end on the cutter side and add some voice for growl. Not sure if any designated elk calls are cutter style buy a turkey call will work.

For "elk" diaphragms (not bird calls), I've heard very good things about the Phelps line up. Also, don't sleep on checking out the Wapiti River Outdoors calls and the Berry Game Calls. I personally have used Berry calls for 30+ years (just hard to teach an old dog new tricks I guess) but I've also tried a handful from Trav/Wapiti River Outdoors and they are solid, great sounding calls. Get a few of each and see what you like

Cow calls can be made with cutters also by starting on the solid side with pressure and sliding quickly to the cutter and relaxing pressure.

I had a similar post a few weeks back. Settled on mellow yellow by Rocky Mountain from the elknut store also the reaper and black widow from wapiti river. All good elk diaphrams and both companies are wapiti talk sponsors, another plus. You can't go wrong with either

For sure you can get great diaphragms from W.T. sponsors, and they will help you learn to use it. Service after the sale. I like a double reed diaphragm. I don't have the soft touch some people do.

The Phelps signiture series are some solid calls. They tend to be the ones I grab. But I have a handful from Wapiti River & they are quality too. I really like his pink lady for cow talk & black widow for bugles.

Check your backpack and the refrigerator. lol Thats my favorite place to hide calls from last year. I just ordered a couple of Berry game calls today never have tried them so we well see. Wapiti River is my favorite, have not had a bad call from Trav. I bought a Primos a couple of weeks ago, complete junk I don't know if I got a bad call or if their all that way. Next year I might try Phelps.

Alright, you guys convinced me I'm gonna give the Wapiti River calls a shot. Got a couple domed ones and a standard one as I've not used one of those before besides for turkey hunting.

I have had great results from Bugling Bull Game Calls mouth reeds' and, due to a previous thread, I am also now anxiously awaiting a shipment from Travis at Wapiti River Outdoors', as they look like some great calls'! Also Adam, if you have a larger mouth reed that does not fit you just right, you can always take a pair of scissors' and trim the call to fit your palate.

I received my calls' in the mail the other day from Wapiti River Outdoors, I purchased the Black Widow, the Reaper and the Pink Lady...all in the domed model and they are all fantastic calls'...I would recommend them to anybody!

I thought I need some new cow diaphragms,.. Dang found three unopened packages in the glove box of my pickup. I think they are still OK,
An order to Travis may need to wait till next summer
