What do you think?

I feel like my chuckles and grunts might not sound real. What do you guys think of my callingood? Any thing you can think of I am doing wrong or do they sound okay? First is a location bugle second bugle with chuckles then with grunts.

They will work, sure they could use some polishing up but you just sound like a young bull is all. When grunts are used 2-3 tops is all you need, for chuckling 3-5 is plenty but don't always be predictable it amount given.

In reality all you will need is the location bugle for locating elk, lose the grunts & chuckling all together when elk hunting! No need for them!

Thank you Paul that give me confidence in my calling hearing that. When you say lose the chuckles and grunts all together do you mean if you challenge a bull just give a aggressive short scream (2 to 3 secounds) with some attitude no grunts?

Yes, have intensity behind your scream when challenging. Too, instead of grunts during a challenge use 2- pants before or after your challenge, they are realistic & much easier to imitate, this can really send a powerful message to the bull. Of course use at the right time on the right ull.

Paul mentioned this some time ago,.. maybe a few years ago,.. and it has stuck in my mind. Responding with the right sound .( elk talk is what Paul is all about)

In a way no different than coyote or goose calling,.. your sounds can be off ( voice) but your timing, cadence ( more so in goose calling) and response with he right "words"

Ive had a few experiences,.. once I had been cow calling towards a herd with at least 10 mature bulls, off and on for 2 hours less than 100 yards away,.. the first bugle and I had a bull in 22 yards in front of me in seconds.

Another time 50 plus cows , a bunch of spikes and those three bulls of my favorite August pic. The big bull was bedded, # 2 was standing 80 yards out the 5x5 was hanging with the small bulls less than 80. Again no response to the cow sounds. One bugle and a couple chuckles on the end,.. that big bull jumped up and pushed those cows for over 2 miles
