Baaaad news!!

There havent been sheep in this forest service plot for as long as we have been playing in the area.
Sheep have trampled and eaten a lot. It appears the sheep had been moved out where we planned to hunt maybe 10 days ago Two days of scouting, I cut one set of tracks and no droppings from this past week. Im sure rutting elk will move in after a few good rains, late season. So Ill scout plan B Friday night and Saturday.

Best Wishes Lefty and all. I am pulling out in the morning and may be gone up to 5 weeks. I will give it my best, but I have not scouted it this year. On the few years I did not scout, I came back empty, I sure hope this is different.

I feel your pain.A few years ago 2000 sheep got loose after being driven down off the mountain and they came thru camp at 1:00 AM. They mucked up the hunt in all directions the rest of the season. Elk will only move back in if they are driven out of some place else.

Sorry to hear about the sheep. Hopefully they didn't ruin your original hunting plans. I have hunted state trust land here in CO that is used to hold sheep. It is usually tough to find much sign other than the sheep, but we see a lot of animals. Buddies of mine that stay there the full season have taken cows out of there every year. I go in that area for deer because it is filled with them. Maybe it won't be quite as void of game as it looks.
