which do you prefer or think is best?

Postby the weasel » 08 18, 2016 •  [Post 1]

Just throwing this out there..... (probably has been discussed numerous times) but do you want a "pass through" or have the arrow stay inside on an animal? I'm torn on this question, the pass through seems like a good way to have a legit kill and good blood trail. On the other hand, if the arrow stays inside the animal (any animal for that matter) it seems to me that from the animal moving/running away the broadhead would continue to cut the vitals/internals of the animal doing a lot of damage in my thoughts. But with only one hole and an arrow stuck in that hole the blood coming out would be slowed down or restricted some not leaving as good of a blood trail... What does the masses think?

I'll take a pass through. I want two blood holes for the tracking job.

Good question. Last year the arrow stayed inside but the broadhead was up against the hide on the backside so I am not sure how much it continued to cut vital organs. If it stayed in the middle, that may work great but up against the hide prolly not so much.. My vote is for a complete passthrough.

I prefer the pass through, but it usually does not happen that way. Either way, if they are hit right they will expire in short order.

I too prefer a pass-through but have countless arrows stay in the elk & carve them up as they bolted off! The end has been the same!

When shooting down at a steep angle, it is rare to get a pass through. When shooting down you need the arrow to enter high on the chest to enter inside and cut the maximum amount of arteries. Usually the chest cavity fills with blood but none leaks out. Also hold high for real penetration. I still remember hitting too far out on an elk's side and the arrow just cut the hide and did not go inside the chest. Apparently a rib acted as a barrier slide.

Pass through for me as a preference. But I will take whatever so long as the animal is recovered.

I too would prefer a pass through, for the reason of tracking alone, although I can understand the point of the broadhead continuing to cut and tear as the animal moves away after the shot.
