Ok, I am dying to know why none of you jerks have answered my question on the tree stand forum about the use of scent and bait. Here are some possibilities you can choose from, or come up with one of your own.

A. I haven't seen the question, and I don't pay attention to the goofy tree stand forum.
B. It is too tough of a question. Can you restate it please?
C. I don't use any sense; err I mean Scents, or bait.
D. I don't like to waste my time answering stupid questions.
E. ??? Other phony excuse.

A... But more seriously, bait is illegal in Colorado and I'm not a real believer in scent. It just seems like elk scent is all over the woods in September and I've never felt like it would increase my odds. And as far as cover scents go... I once met a hunter in the woods with one of those cover scent wafers clipped to his hat. It stunk to high heaven! I think I smelled him from about 50 yards and I've never smelled ANYTHING like that in the elk woods! Something like a wet dog in a manure pile.

A and E. I'm scared of heights only when I elk hunt. Whitetail I'm not scared of height, I've been 35 ft up on a one of those diving board.

Everyone's excuse is weak at best. Most are totally phony too. It is a tough choice, but I am picking Cohunter's as the worst yet because he can say he is meticulous about minimizing his scent on one thread and claim to not even believe in scent here. I am hoping someone can beat this, but it will be hard.

Hey, Swede! Thanks for calling me out Let me explain what I meant - I assumed you were talking about some of those cow scents as attractants like the typical white-tail urine. I just can't believe a bull would go crazy over some stale cow urine from a bottle. I feel like there's more fresh and authentic scent in the woods that would hold their interest. As artificial cover scents go, the only one I've experienced smelled totally out of place in the woods - I'd think an elk would think that scent was out of place as well. In that vein, I try to manage my own out of place scent. I wasn't trying to contradict myself!

A - as far as scent and like one person put you cannot use bait in CO. Also I don't know if a rifle hunter can use a treestand in CO which I do not think they can - either way I don't really do treestands or at least in the whitetail hunting I did.

Cohunter, you are great. I completely understand. I was just trying to gin up some mischief by taking you totally out of context. You are a good sport.

Thanks, swede! I thought I was legitimately getting called out by one of the board's hunting giants. I haven't tried hunting a tree stand for elk - I don't have a tree stand and I'm restricted to a budget about as low as they come (more excuses for you) BUT I know they do work! We found a treestand in our area last year the day after opening day - gutpile at the bottom. It worked for them! Maybe someday I'll be able to try!

Cohunter, I hate to pester you again, but you misspelled a couple of simple words. It is "bored" not "board", and "gnat" not "giant". details, details.

On a more serious note, let me say, it is my objective to keep this forum more than a repository of dry hunting information. Maybe that is because I hate reading instruction manuals and sheets placed in boxes of parts. Hunting is by nature fun, and that is just as important as killing something. If the forum was not fun, I would soon be moving on. When I hunt it is 100% focus on the objective, but after that everything changes. By observation I see that several people here are continuously endeavoring to keep things fun and active. After all this is a great forum campfire.
