I'm getting ready to order a new batch of reeds for this years elk hunt. What have you used in the past that is always a must have in your arsenal of calls.

I have been very happy with Bugling Bull Game Calls mouth reeds'....Raging Bull, The Challenge, Mellow Yellow and The Mistress are my personal favorites'.

I use a cutter style turkey call. For bulges, I start the air on the cutter side for rasp, slide to the single for squeel, then back to the cutter and use some voice growl at the end. Cow mews I start on the single with pressure and then relax pressure at the end. I can make some authentic sounds but under pressure I find some turkey sounds slip back in without trying...sort of a calling target panic thing. With the Berry thunder bugle I don't have that happen like I do with a diaphragm.

TBM you should be using elk reeds for calling elk and stick to turkey reeds for turkey.

I've used Berry calls for many years and being an old dog, its hard to teach me new tricks (they not only sound good but are long lasting). That said, I have tried most of the Wapiti River reeds and they are very, very good. You can't argue with how Mr. Trav did using his calls last year in the RMEF World Championship

I don't understand why you are fighting everyone giving you info. To me, you are making calling elk way harder then it needs to be !

Do you sell your Dome style reeds in multiple frame sizes? If not, about what size would you compare it to from other manufacturers? Also what's the anticipated release date on the Yeti? Looking forward to trying one soon!

B.Sentman Thanks for the great question. We have two frame sizes. Small and regular.

We mostly sell the regular sized frame calls. The small frames are better suited for young kids and ladies with smaller pallets. Out of 2-300 reeds we may sell 2 in the small size. I would suggest trying the Phantom which is a narrow domed reed and try a domed Black Widow. Then you can feel the difference in size.

One tip is stay with the biggest frame reed you can get away with as you'll get better sounds and consistently !

As for the "Yeti" I am just waiting on the card insert for the packaging. If you do not need any fancy packaging I can send out the yeti's anytime as they are ready to go ! Please just call me at 780-876-6170 to order the "yeti" as its not active on our website yet. I would also recommend the "Reaper" for bugling as it's been our best seller for a while now.

Thanks for the input. Mellow yellow,raging bull,black widow and reaper ordered. I think that variety pack should get the job done.

I know this thread has died down, but I wanted to throw in my support for Travis' calls as well. I have tried a few of the WRO calls last year, among many other brands and types. I found I am better with domed diaphragm reeds. I decided to order the Reaper this season. I have been using it, and it is my new favorite bugling diaphragm. It is a great call, feels comfortable, and makes some really nice sounds.

I just received my reeds from wapiti river today. The reaper and black widow. They did take a little longer to get as they were mailed from Canada but wow!! I think I have found a new favorite. Still like the mellow yellow a lot but these two from Travis really seem to fit and are easy to get some great sounds out of

3 Wapiti river - double latex blue call.....not sure on the name, Travis?
Id list a few of Phelps calls too, but I cant remember the names. Some work better than others from each company for me.
I haven't tried berry game calls yet and im not much of a fan of primos. They just don't fit me right.
