Any advice on Value of my boat?

Postby Deanmac » 08 03, 2016 •  [Post 1]

We sold our house in Carrabelle Florida and I need to deal with our boat. I purchased this boat about 7 years ago and have used it very little. Boat came from North Alabama and has been used for striper fishing most of its life.

Boat is a 1991 Mako, 191 with a 1996 Yamaha 150HP Salt water series engine, two cycle. Boat will run about 50 MPH and handles the rough water well.

What do you guys think would be a fair price on this boat?

I am not going to give it away but would rather have a small boat better suited for the lakes in West Georgia where I live.Image Image

What I would do is search on a forum like The Hull Truth , or post it for sale there - http://www.thehulltruth.com/index.php

Another one is Classic Mako - http://www.classicmako.com/forum/

Makos do have a pretty good following - so those sites would give you a good ballpark.

That looks like a great dive platform for spearfishing our local yellow tail etc. Clean too.

There are guys in my area of Orange County, CA who have picked up boats from Florida etc. and brought them back here. To see what similar boats go for you may want to check out Bloody Decks. It is a well trafficked forum.

No idea on value. Someone told me the 2 happiest days in the life of a boat owner are the day he buys it and the day he sells it.

I could not say what your boat is worth but I just insured my (new to me) boat. Though the sites appraised it at about 7K total I did 12.5K because of what it would cost me to buy a comparable used boat with the same/similar equipment I have. So the way I approached it is to imagine I had a total loss and now I am boat shopping to replace my 'total loss'.

I will say I am super happy with my coverage; it was only $170 for 12 mo. of comprehensive/collision/medical/uninsured boater plus to boot have this coverage called "sign and glide" which is like AAA but for the water - includes jumps, fuel, tow etc.

Good luck and nice boat :)

Glad you sold your boat, I am not sure where my insurance tangent came from after re-reading your initial post

How much? I would have valued it around $5k.

I got 6K in cash and a new lowrance finder that cost $469. Sold to a local dealer, he stated he was keeping for himself. Boat was solid and nice for the year model.
