Never owned one, what are the pros and cons of straight and angled?

Probably get a lot of opinions , but I prefer the angled. Have used both. The angled to me is a little more versatile. Can use it low on top of a pack frame if you just want to take a quick peek at something and they are easier to use if you are trying to angle up and look at something up high. I like to star/planet gaze with mine in addition to hunting.

It can be a little harder to "get on target" with an angled, but you get better at it with practice.

I went through this same thing. I ended up going with the straight. Why? ElkNut (Paul) had a sale going on that I couldn't refuse. So I just picked one....
Really that simple. I think you will find yourself in enough situations where you would really like to have one or the other. And you cant go wrong with either one. Its an awesome tool to have. Rangerz made some good points, too. If you do have a preferred style of glassing (looking up draws) or using it at the range, you may want the angled. Easier to get on target with a straight one. Just a few things to think about.

Definitely angled. easier at the range, and more versatile setting up in uneven terrain. You can lay it on about anything and get down to use it.With straight, you have to get down to the level of the scope

Never had this problem, but in theory it could happen. Many models allow you to rotate the body so that you can place the eyepiece at different angles.

I have a vortex that I got from Elknut and it has this feature. Haven't tried it, but in theory you could rotate the body 180 and have a better angle than you would with a straight.

Also, you can usually keep the an angled lower on the tripod so that it isn't as susceptible to wind movement.
