Lots of Bear sign.

The BSA scout camp we attended this year had to shut down the camp because of marauding bears. One bear was killed last fall, Then one removed another killed after the fourth of July actually shredding three scout tents . The next week we were at camp and some of my scouts saw two, two-year old bears hustling near or camp. Wyoming F and Game was called. Now this week they may close the canyon again because of bears, black and grizzle. We had individual camp site bear inspections three and four times a day. We got dinged once for a incomplete burn on a pop can and a dish-soap left at the wash area.

So no Bear Rasslin' merit badges for your troop this year? Safety first. I would have loved seeing bear sign @ Scout camp, then never slept a wink after. Well, I never slept much there anyway. Night raids

The first scout in our troop to see the bears is a real Idaho country boy. Just sort of nonchalantly said "Two bears walked between me and the tents " " I followed them to the river, they never knew I was following them"
If they aren't up for breakfast prayer they do dishes.,Some boys are a problem, once.
Our counsel only has 3 camps we have always rotated through them. But the younger scouts want to go to the same scout camp,.just to the camp site next to us,..where the bears tore the tents open.

Now I gotta tell a bear story. A friend who came up for the week and helped with the scouts use to work at the lodge at the end of Corn creek Salmon Idaho,.. Im sure a few guys on this site have been there.
Before he was 16 he and the owners son were up to clear trails of deadfall before they started pack trips. My friend woke up to the roar of his buddies .357. Then commence to chew him out , ***** was tired and going back to sleep.
His buddy was pale and just standing there staring at him with he pistol at his side shaking. the buddy asked " are you Ok?"
**** "No I'm tired" "Let me sleep"

The the buddy asked the question " are you Ok" then went on to explain a bear had been sleeping with him, he thought the bear had killed him and was eating him, he was dead, He was worried if he shot he might shoot ***** .

Still not believing him until he noticed his sleeping bag was covered with globs of fur. and the bag of Oreos licked clean.
