Old freezer!

Postby rowdycwby1 » 07 27, 2016 •  [Post 1]

Has anyone turned a old freezer into a ice chest? I have a old stand up that I use for my reloading supplies but I need new coolers and was thinking it would be cheaper than buying new ones just don't know how I'm going to load it up by myself after everyone leaves since I'm hunting last 4 days solo.

They really don' t have that good of insulation with just ice in them, but would not be as heavy if you gut the compressor, etc. out of it.Thenmaybelineitwith 2" foam board.

Better solution is you can buy a smaller freezer for about $160 at Costco or even Home Depot. Then a small 900 W generator from Northern Tool or Harbor Freight for about $90 that should run it.I can move my little freezer around by myself and I'm a small guy.

1/2" OSB, 2" of foam board all around would be lighter and better insulated than an freezer.
