Going all in for ID

Postby lamrith » 07 22, 2016 •  [Post 1]

Getting pretty excited, I just bought my ID license and Tags for Sept Elk hunt. This will be my 1st real elk hunt, I did a few days solo the last few years, but just no idea what I was doing.
Spent last weekend over there scouting with my new hunting partner. He has taught me quite a bit over the last few months, and let me join his camp this year, we are both optimistic on the season. We did some minor trail clearing, lots of cams put up. Look to have a few decent locations for evening hunting from a blind after he drags my butt thru the hills for a few days.

Since it is not my camp I will not share anything specific as not knowing the units I could say something that will give away exactly where we are. I will say that I am getting a 41A panhandle tag.

I'm assuming you mean 4 A since 41 isn't in the Panhandle. I hunted unit 4 for 2 years.

41A is the tag I bought, ElkA panhandle tag, sorry I am not willing to divulge which specific unit we will be in as it is not my camp. I was just trying to share my excitement on my 1st big hunt.

No worries, I just do not know enough about the area in general to know what information might give away the camp location, so lips are sealed.
Some guys out there if I told unit and then said something like we found a drainage off a rockface with tons of elk sign would know exactly and have the spot pinpointed. Heck I have seen pictures from people game cams and other guys have pinpointed exactly where that game cam was located based on just a single image from a game cam back in the timber...

Good luck on your ID hunt this year mister. Don't forget to bring your meat hauler, and, strong and able (young) back! :D It'll be a grand time. Will see you this weekend, bring your calls (gotta get you tuned up for both WA and ID).

I know where your going. It was cutting trails and trail cams that gave you away. Haha

So I'm confused. I think I'm sorry I chimed in on this thread. There is no Unit 41A, nor would that be anywhere near the Panhandle...where I've lived and hunted for 38 years now. I had been hoping to help out since you seemed new to the area...

He's hunting with me and one other guy in Idaho this year NorthIDTLH. The tags we eventually receive have odd numbers printed on them and I'm pretty sure that's where he's getting/seeing the 41A. He bought the Panhandle A tag. I have hunt areas in a few different zones up there but spend most of my time in 6 but venture into a few others. Gonna give old Lamrith an elk hunting crash course this September :D

Sorry for the confusion guys. Being out of state all I saw was what is on the website and it has 41A as the tag number for "Panhandle A" so I thought everyone would know what that was.
