First Bugle of the Season

I went camping with my family this week and not 10 minutes after getting out of the car, we heard a bugle! Needless to say, that got the juices pumping. Now it wasn't the most polished bugle and I'm wondering if any of you folks have a link to a good cow bugle for comparison. Would bulls be starting to warm up and stretch their vocal cords for the season? When do you all tend to hear the big boogers begin bugling?

It is rare, but out working I have heard bulls bugle even in the Spring. I remember one bugled while I sat and ate my lunch on about July 5th one year. It was just one distinct bugle down in the timber below.

That's how this one was. A single clear bugle - not far from a busy road in the aspens. Just 4 weeks until opening day! (how is that even possible!?)

Lot of bulls will start up early with one or two note bugles to get to know what other bulls are in the area.

We hear bugles a lot from our local Bulls. Spring summer can't say that I've heard them January thru feb but wouldn't bet that they don't bugle. They have been bugling sporadically from June but this rut starts earlier. Had a nice. Bull glunking and posturing /herding the cows two days ago. So I would assume that elk bugle all year long no matter where they are.
