Google Earth question

Postby 82ndreddevil » 07 21, 2016 •  [Post 1]

This question might seem more appropriate being posted in the Gear/weapons page but I am posting it in here for greater visibility. So I know that on the bottom of a google earth image it typically says what year the image was taken. However I do notice that when I am looking at water holes the image changes as I zoom in. For example, as I look at a water hole from higher up it appears to be full of water, then as I zoom in it appears to be dry. So does Google earth take the same image over at different times of year with different levels of zoom??????

One guy who hunted with us a couple of years ago, and is in a business with access to satellite photos told us that Google gets their photos from many different sources, and may or may not be updated often. There is a date at the bottom that says when the imagery was obtained.

Have you not found the historical images function?

Look at the icons along the top, and find the one that is a circle with a green counter-clockwise around the top. Click that, and check out all of the historical images.

I've seen what you are talking about in Microsoft Virtual Earth, but not in GE. Only when I zoom way out have I seen it patch together an older image.

It will also tell you the date not just the year that it was taken. It's just to the left of the latitude, longitude, elevation.

On my phone on Google maps and Xmaps my image will change, but not on Google Earth.

Well so I deleted the app from my iPad, and downloaded it again. All seems fine now, just really weird. Thanks for the responses
