Domestic Critter Count

What kind of domestic beasts do you have roaming around your place? No livestock for me but I have a yeller lab, a boston terrier mix, a whippet mix, and a pug mix.. Yah, it's a fine group at my homestead. Just finished round three in the yard of throwing miscellaneous retrievable items for three of the four. Princess pug (Maggie) doesn't like such nonsense and refrains from playing in the yard with the stinky boys.

What kind of critters do you have?

Another yeller dog here. Some sort of yorkie corkie little rat dog named Suzi. Just walked in the do0r this evening and we have 5 new layer chicks to add to our four layers. We use to have too many horse now were down to 1 and a 1/4
A quarter horse paint, Monet is my middle daughters horse And Sparky a 250 Mini
And a few weeks back we bought a yearling red angus to finish off all the extra alphafa she bought last fall

The closest thing i have to a pet is probably this little lady with her tongue hanging out in the foreground. When im outside doing yardwork shell walk right up to me begging for treats and shell eat right off my porch.

Not the prettiest deer ive ever seen, but shes got a great personality

I have a field bred springer. She's almost 10 and is mostly deaf. I probably will have to retire her from hunting after another year or 2. I had a guard dog also but he died a couple years ago. He was a boerboel and a real handful but I still miss him.

We have a bunny and a pheasant dog. The dog is a Brittany. But soon we will be adding a yeller dog to the fold as well. Excitement is pretty high to get the yeller dog. 12 days to go the kids tell me! Ahhh, puppies.....

Living on a small farm, we have a german shepherd, and a blab(boxer/lab mix) and a great pyrenees for house dogs. We also have goats, chickens, two geese, a duck, two rabbits and livestock guardian dogs to keep the coyotes from eating the other animals, and I have my turkeys! one tom and 3 hens, and all 3 hens are broody, but two of them are sitting on chicken eggs, and the third one decided to nest in the thick stuff in the neighbors yard somewhere. So I may have some poults running around in a week or three.

Like wawhitey we have deer (Blacktail) in the yard a lot. I think of them more as a nuisance than a pet, as they eat whatever we plant. They have exquisite taste though, as they munch on the most expensive plants we have first. We also have other wildlife like possums and rabbits occasionally. They don't stay around or eat much.

2 beagles, 2 cats, a blue crowned conure (parrot), 2 lovebirds, 1 red eared slider (turtle), and a wife.

I sit and think all the time how it might be nice to live in a wall tent in the back yard. I've actually asked the wife if I could get a discount on the mortgage and bills if I only came in the house to use the bathroom occasionally and drop of my laundry. She denied my request.

A lewellin setter for me and my wife has 3 cats Yep that's how much I love that woman. 3 cats worth. An abundance of whitetail too

Yea, around here,deer are long legged rats they are so destructive.

I trimmed my herd several years ago.Now only have a pack mule and a saddle mule,and a black lab cross.
I'm trying real hard not to get anything else that eats

Two German Wirehair Pointers, 5 hens and a rooster- gotta love fresh eggs!! Oh and a Dexter cow at the neighbors. Have to fill freezers with some red meat if/when I strike out on the elk.

You guys are killin me. Just put down the 15 yr old shorthair. Tough to do, but man was he a great dog. Best bird dog I owned and he helped pace me through training for my first marathon. He joined our family just after my son passed and helped us through a lot of rough days.

Sorry to hear about your GS passing Bryan. Do you have any plans on bringing home a spanking new, toe chewing, tail wagging, ball of fire puppy in the near future?

Pretty similar to my weekend...have two labs. one yellow one black...and they just can't get enough!!!

I think I'm holding off for a while. I would love another, but my wife really struggles with lots of what dogs bring to the table. She wants to be a little less tied down than we've been our whole marriage. After a GS she has already decided she wants a Great Dane next. A friend has an 8 month old that you have to take its pulse to make sure it is still alive. Not much more than a body pillow that leaves elephant crap in the yard! Might be a great thing for our kids that have been through a lot in their short little lives. I know better than anyone with all the destruction those flee bags bring a ball of love you can't get in any other form.

Have had little yeller dog for almost 3 weeks now. Kids love it. my 12 year old daughter is doing an amazing job with it. Takes a big load off the wife and my back. Little ball of fur with needle sharp teeth and tons of energy.....until the energy runs out then CRASH! ZZzzzz. Wherever it may be, it just falls asleep.

Sorry to hear about your son ishy. My wife passed and my chocolate helped me through these hard times also. He was always my dog but when she was sick he was by her side 24/7 and she was his best friend. He passed away about a year ago. Best dog ever. I hope your family heals as much as possible.

Great thread (Including even the sad parts because there is so much love there)! Currently I have a pom-chi - thought I would hate having a little dog but she's not yippie like many and she just loves the heck out of us.

We have 7 charolais cows, 2 stallions, bout 14 broodmares, my 4 mountain geldings, couple mini horses, couple goats, pot belly pig, dozen or so chickens, 3 mini schnauzers, st bernard, one english bulldog, few barn cats, one house cat, deer, coyotes galore, coons, possums, an armadillo holed up under the propane tank, pond has bass and turtles, and a 3 yr old daughter . Wife loves her some critters, so i told her to figure out a way to make money off em, she now has a successful little farm mostly selling foals and calves.

Got this little dude last month, think hes a border collie / australian shepherd mix. Awesome super friendly pup. This is his first winter and he cant seem to get enough of playing in the snow.

Ha, too funny. Looks like he's having a rough time settling in . Did you end up keeping the other pup (smaller one) you rescued?

Splitting them up was the only alternative to taking them to the pound. A guy who hunts deer in the area every year, sets up camp in the neighborhood, he took the other guy. Since i spend 200 days a year at sea and live alone i cant really have a dog, so i got my parents to take this one. I visit a lot, and hell be spending time at my place when im home. They already have 2 labs, so asking them to take two more dogs was a big f no.
