Magnus Black Hornet

I have alwasy been a fan of Magnus, best warranty, great customer service, great broad-head. However, i am a little disappointed in their new Black hornet that was released about this time last year. I jumped on these broadheads the day they were made available. they fly great, and seemed to have solid construction. I alwasy practice shooting with my broadhead so put these through the wringer.

I have had several of them break on me in the last year. Anything from the bleeder blade popping off to snapping right at the "joint" or right where the broad head screws into the arrow.(not sure the technical term). Of course they replace them and thats great, but the same thing keeps happening. And i am by no means shooting these into a steel block. in some cases they would fly through my target and hit a bit of the plywood in the back. that would be about the worst thing I have done to them.

So with a heavy heart i must say i do NOT give the Black Hornet two thumbs up as i have done for other magnus broadheads. I have now switched to Solid Broadheads. Which are seriously expensive at $100 for 3. But they are the strongest broadhead I have seen. And just the type of broadhead I want piercing through a great Wapiti. trust me when I say I hesitated about posting this review bc of how much i Like the Magnus company. But had another one break yesterday and think its only fair after I posted numerous positive comments/reviews about magnus that I also be fair and post the negatives.

has anyone else had experience with the Black hornet....good or bad?

Crap, I bought a 3 pack this winter and have not had a chance to try them out. I just put one on my arrow last night. Which one did you buy? I bought the Ser-Razor 100. I was trying to get away from G5, I just can't get them sharp.

My persona experience is that they are not as durable as say their stinger broadheads. I think they would do fine on an elk but I opted to revert back to the stinger buzzcuts.

I had the same experience as you and I quit using them as well.

I broke 9 of them over the course of a year. I shoot my broadheads a lot. Every time I shoot my bow I shoot broadheads, year round. All of mine broke in the exact same place as yours did. They removed half of the ferrule material there to make a slot for the bleeder to fit into. It is also appears to be cast aluminum and just not durable. I had a bleeder blade on one dislodge and get stuck, in the process of trying to pull out the bleeder blade the ferrule snapped in half.

I've shot a lot of braodheads over the years and these are the only ones I have used that actually broke. I've bent and mangled a bunch of them but never broken them. It is a bad design IMO.
