Spike camp tents

Not sure if this should be on the campfire section or not...... Wondering what tent do people recommend for a spike camp with 3 people? I actually prefer to have a 4 person tent with 3 people even if it means a little extra weight. I am looking for a new tent and curious to what others use and/or recommend. Also prefer to have a vestibule attached but not really necessary. I like the vestibule so I do not have to smell dirty boots and prefer a extra person capacity tent so my hunting partners are not drooling on my face in the middle of the night.

Yes thanks Ghost the tent looks roomy and pretty cheap also. I read two of the 2 star reviews and they both had issues with the poles breaking. Have you had any issues with them?

Yep, we had a pole break on an older model, Alps service was outstanding, sent a new model tent ASAP. The current tent we have has been on 5 backpacking trips without a hitch. One thing I do to mitigate stress on the poles is use the outermost hole on where the poles secure to the tent.

You need to remember that the space required for 1 man is the size of a mummy bag and no more. So vestibules are pretty much a necessity unless you are solo. Even solo a 2 man is more realistic. So for 3 guys I would suggest at least a 5 man with vestibules. A 4 man would leave about 6 inches of space between 3 guys and a few inches on each side. And since you have 3 guys you can split the weight anyway. Poles, tent, spikes etc.

Titanium Goat tipi on the left. It's a 4 man and there is enough room for stove, 2 guys, and a little room to keep cloths dry. We take a tarp to store gear under. I wish I would have gone with the six man as my boy are getting older .

Thanks everyone for your information and input. Yes 6 inches between each person is a bit too cramped for me. My son sleeps like a dog at night and rolls on you, kicks, pushes and hogs the whole tent. On our last WY trip I was nice the first night but had to be not so nice the next night and I slept much better.

Like six mentioned above - Are you considering tipis and other floorless shelters? You could have a palace with stove, and everyone could bring Ultralite cots for minimal extra weight if you're splitting gear.

For max floor space with minimal weight a tipi is definitely worth a look. They are light enough for one guy to pack so he can suggest that a partner packs in a lightweight woodstove which makes a really ice setup.

Ha Ha in my camp anyone in my tent cleans up before bed. The farts, well I hope that is not much of a problem. Everyone was on the same page and took a cold shower every night after hunting. I am staying away from the woodstove as it is too much added weight for archery season. Was looking at a camp away from camp when you get into elk. A tarp worked fine for years but I am getting soft at my age and like a bit of comfort now.
