Grizzly kills man by Glacier

I read on Facebook today that a grizzly killed a bicyclist near Glacier. They are now looking for the bear but haven't found it. My question is this....how on earth does one go about looking for one particular grizzly....and you don't even know what that one particular grizzly looks like? Maybe a track I guess, but how would you even start that?

They'll probably do like they did in Florida when that gator ate that little boy. They'll start killing every one they can find until they find human remains.

Everyone talks about Yellowstone but the bears up in Glacier are crabby I tell ya. You don't hear about most incidents. I'd never hike around there without spray. No handguns in the park although it wouldn't hurt.

When I attended the grizzle bear management meeting in Jackson with all the wackcos a few weeks back you would think grizzlies: only a few grizzlies were left and they only existed near Yellowstone

Grizzlies are big and bad, and they know it. Raises the hair on the back of your neck when you know the track( or poop ) is fresh

The Flathead Valley and surrounding area in NW MT has changed drastically over the years since I grew up there. BIG money moved in from California, etc., and those folks are now the BIG voice in what happens in the area (can we say far left, fuzzy bunny huggers). Grizz sightings outside the park are common place nowadays. The money/voice folks are so concerned with saving/preserving the big cuddly grizzly bear that the bears are really overpopulating and flowing out of the Park. Halfmoon Lake is well outside of the park where the attack occurred (used to fish that and another nearby lake when I was a pup). Prayers sent to his family, co-workers, and friends for a terrible loss.

I think it's a DNA deal. They'll use fur from the scene and try and match any bear they catch in the area. Doubt even when a attack is witnessed many distinguishing characteristics could be useful. Unless of course it had a bald butt!

But how do they go about finding that bear? Bait it back? walk hand in hand and sing "Here Bear.....here Bear......HERE BEAR"?

Excuse me sir. (Bear: "I'm a woman") So sorry maam would it be ok if I just asked you a few questions? What is that blood on your paws? Would you consent to a stool sample? Where were you between say 8am and noon on June 29th? Can anyone verify that you were sleeping in said grass? I'm going to have to take you down to the local meat processor for more questioning. And by the way what are you doing over there? (Bear: "um, uh... grocery shopping") Step away from the dumpster and nobody gets hurt! Mobile to base. Suspect in custody on theft of garbage charges for now. Base: "I hope it's the right one this time we've gutted 3 already this morning".

Joe, that is what I was thinking too! I did read today they had traps and cams out and didn't locate it. So after 3 days they are giving up. It also said that he collided with the bear, so that explains quite a bit. Frankly, that is just bad luck. Poor guy.
