Idaho non-resident bowhunter

I was born after 1975 and thus I need to show proof of out of state archery license per the regs.

I passed hunter safety in WA state and have my card plus have been bowhunting since the mid 1990s.

Question - can I buy my hunting license and elk tag online or do I have to buy it in person to show proof of bowhunting ed?

If you go to the ID F&G site, you'll see the following on the Non Res License Application:

On the top right portion of page one:

• Hunter Education Certification No. (if born after January 1, 1975) ___________________________
• Archery Education No. _________________________________ (for archery–only hunts)
Don’t have an archery education number?
See the affidavit on the back of this form.

The easiest way to get into the game the first year as a Non Res in Idaho (IMO) is to complete the Idaho Bowhunter Affidavit at the bottom of the second page of the app stating you have "previously held a valid archery permit in Idaho or have been legally authorized to participate in archery hunts in another state". Complete the Non Res application including the Affidavit, write out a check for all required fees, and send to the Idaho F&G. Do this the first year you hunt there and after that, you can do it on-line as they have your information in the system.

No, don't believe they charge you for taking the Affidavit route vs. providing the Hunter's ED Cert or Archery ED #. It's just an alternate way they confirm you meet the requirements (trusting your word via Affidavit that you in fact have completed the required TNG, or, have held a valid archery permit in another state). So, a guy is looking at the hunting license fee, the tag (animal) fee, and if you're an archery hunter, they charge an additional 20 bones. Why? I'm not sure but there's no way to get around the $20 archery fee.

Planning is going well. Question for you local to Idaho. Does anyone know the best place to possibly hang meat for a few days in the McCall area? If we fill a tag early in the trip we would mostly likely like to hang the quarters for a few days until we have to head home.

On the bow affidavit, I carried a old license and my affidavit, just to prove that I have archery hunted in the past. I don't know if you have too but better save than sorry.

I am in the game! Well almost. I sent in the application, affidavit, copy of last year WA archery license & tag, plus copy of WA hunter safety and the check for the entire amount. Fingers crossed I did it correctly. My dad spoke to a knowledgeable and friendly biologist for the zone we are heading too.

we killed a bull in mcall.

beautiful area..tough hiking. zero clue on meat lockers. we took the bull last 10 mins of the hunt.
