Pac System

I got a really nice pac (Badlands Diablo) and trying to figure out what to carry. I'm going to use strickly as a day pac with emergency overnight gear. So far I have a steri pen, sil tarp, fire starter, emergency blanket. For extra first load meat carrying capability I added a really light pack I got in the camping section at Wal-Mart which should extend the first load to around 45 pounds. I hope to add GPS soon to the gear list.

I'm sure there are lots of topics on this subject but most I have seen have more stuff than I am willing to carry.

My daypack usually consists of a 2oz sil tarp, Mylar emergency blanket, fire starter, an a titanium cup for boiling or cooking in for overnight emergency gear.

Hydration and food:
I carry a platypus 2L bladder with a sawyer filter for additional water if needed. 2-3 granola bars, snack size ziplock of nuts, snack size of dried fruits and I usually have a field stripped MRE that consist of the main meal and the heater and sport.

Gear:
Calls
Smart phone (I use it for a gps,camera and to view trail cam pics)
Cover scent
Wind checker
Elk or deer urine
Gloves/mask/paint (depending on the weather I like paint over mask and gloves)
Knife/bone saw/game bags
First aid kit (epi pen, band aids, gauze, tape and steri strips for bad cuts.

All that fits into a small daypack with lots of extra room total comes up to about 3.5-4 pounds including the pack I use, which is enough to load the neck meat, back straps and tender loins into a bag for the first trip out where I then ditch that and grab a big pack frame

I forgot to add 50' of paracord. I use this on my last elk trip to help position my elk for dressing. Ikefire some of the items you mention I don't have on my list because I have them on my person reguardless of whether or not I have my pack. My elk call and knife are on my side as is bear spray.
