Hot Dogs?

Postby WapitiTalk1 » 05 24, 2016 •  [Post 1]

Ya, I know what they're made of :). Love the Costco Mariner beef dogs burnt on the grill or over a fire on a willow. Any hot dog fans out there?

I have been taking Hebrew Nationals with me hunting and scouting. They make a good quick lunch when I am in camp. No; the Hebrew nationals are not some Jewish cooks over here visiting from Jerusalem. :D

Never ever the cheap-oh rolled baloney.

Real meat, pork or beef. I grew up in an area in southern Minnesota with real German Polish meat markets. All the meat markets made their own "dogs". skin on, real gut casings. Most markets have gone out of business. Dunlop meats was the real thing, the best of the best. Mankato Meat markets took over some of their recipes.

When I go back to Minnesota I end up buying most of my groceries at http://schmidtsmeatmarket.com/.
Kind of gone a bit yuppie the past 30 years,.. but thats whats left in the area

I'm giddy this am, was able to log onto WT @ work after several months of being blocked.

Whenever I have elk scraps, I get a friend or butcher to make smoked sausages: Polish, Italian, Chorizo, whatev. Those are the best lil doggies. Next time the freezer fills, think I'll try making my own sausage.

Not lately. I used to have a smoker, think the last meat I did in there was a rack of elk ribs that marinated in apple juice and vinegar, no brine. They were great, kind of chewy. Now I go gutless, never have ribs to cook. It used to be a 4th of July tradition to grill elk ribs. I have my eyes on Craigslist for a smoker. How 'bout you, Lefty? Or any other meat smokers, sausage grinders have words of wisdom?

My favorite lunch is that Costco Polish Sausage dog and a drink for $1.50.

When I was young, my mother would boil hot dos in saurkraut . Still can't get one past my nose toady.
Speaking of bologna, she would buy one of those whole logs, abut 5"in diameter and 20 inches long and set us kids up grinding it in a hand crank grinder to make faux ham salad. That was a weeks worth of school lunche sfor us four kids

Those costco Polish have a nasty after-taste
Now a brat in kraut is good stuff
Auugh those bologna logs, we use to fry chunks for breakfast ,.. were is the puking icon

Duds its been a long time. I use to make a summer sausage in my oven out of beaver meat in natural casing,.. I remember it had powdered milk in the recipe Everyone who tried it liked it.
Now I have a tough time even smoking a few ducks for Christmas,..
