Compact but bright flashlight

I am going to purchase a smaller flashlight to throw in my pack for this fall's elk hunt to supplement my head lamp and am looking for opinions' on what everybody is using and would recommend, considering cost, brightness, size, battery life...etc. Thank you in advance!

Here are some flashlights that I have or have used in the past.

It's not super compact but it's worth the little extra weight and size. This light alone comes in at just about 1 pound but with the extra battery and wall and car charger they say it weighs closer to 2 pounds. I have also used the light a lot and the continual use age of 1 hr and 15 minutes is under rated I get about 2-2.5 hours of use out of the battery but keep the spare with me or in the truck. Very bright and has a long distance at 297 meters. It is an expensive investment but I have been using mine daily for work since January and it hasn't let me down and it is very durable and holds up well to hard impacts on concrete.

this guy is super bright and has good distance on light, since it's designed for fires it's good at cutting through smoke and got without reflecting a lot of light back at you. It is a lot lighter coming in at just over 5 ounces before adding 4 AA batteries.

This one is a backup or on my radio strap light that I carried for quick access. http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B007AJVIC ... ref=plSrch it's nice and compact, pretty bright on the brightest setting with several other settings including SOS and strobe. It weighs 6 ounces with 3AAA batteries included. Some nice features are an adjustable beam size as well as a little clip and a magnet on the back to attach it to something metal to allow you to have both of your hands for doing tasks.

I hope this helps a little and I tried to get some that were all over the price points and give a review of them all. If you have any questions regarding lights feel free to ask I use and go through lots of different brands,styles and priced lights to find what works best for me.

No particular reason, I have a headlamp that I use primarily and that I like very well, I just currently have an old mag-lite that I have in my pack as an additional backup light and it has been a good light, although it is due to be replaced, so I was just considering what options' are out on the market to replace it. If you have any input to add on a certain headlamp, I would most certainly listen. lol :lol:

I just now realized that I failed to mention that the reason why I carry a handheld flashlight as a backup, instead of an additional headlamp, is due to the fact that I can use both the headlamp and the handheld flashlight together in a situation, such as tracking after dark, in which I want to use both light sources' simultaneously to really brighten the area up as much as possible, which would be less convenient to accomplish if I was attempting to use two headlamps. lol

Ryan, check out the Zebralights. They carry both handheld and headlamp variations and are very, very good lights. I have a "flood" headlamp that I use for close quarters applications.

I've used a Streamlight Stylus Pro for years, I always have it in my cargo pocket along with my Leatherman. It's bright enough to use for navigating through heavy timber at night and the batteries (two AAA alkaline) last for about 6 hours of continuous use.

Buy a steam light Protac 2AA and be done with it.
I couple mine with a AA Zebrallight and have all bases covered. I like having one battery size.

I carry two Zebra light headlamps. The light is removable from the headband if you want to hold it in your hand.

ditto on the zebra lamp. I also use a surefire minimus, built like a tank but a little pricey.
