Hunt time?

When I was young and single I hunted and trapped October until either Christmas then went to school or spring beaver trapped,.. then mostly fished weekends,.. or when the bite was on
Married with kids I became and after work hunter and Saturday hunter,.. hunting water fowl I could be home in time for the wife and kids for breakfast, or after school hunts or Saturday afternoon hunts with the kids.
Teaching has really limited my time to hunt to mostly Saturdays. But every Saturday Im waking up somewhere else other than home .

I had one friend who would schedule 2 - three day blocks of built up vacation to run trap lines from is government job.

Another took big blocks of time 2-3 weeks a number of times a year to hunt fish and trap.

My father in law generally had one 2 week hunt planned somewhere in Canada , Alaska or sheep/ goat hunt. He often extended lunch hours for a upland hunt of duck jump shoot, Then took off Thursdays and Fridays for local deer hunting and out of state elk hunting. And when he had hounds , any fresh snow and he was gone looking for track
What do you get-to-do for hunt time

I go five days before the season starts and stay until I get an elk. If it is fairly soon that I get one, then I stay awhile and scout and deer hunt. If I connect on elk late in the season I go home and rest up. Deer for me is just a bonus. I rarely ever fish, but can be talked into it if nothing else is going on.

I have made myself a goal of at least one big out of state hunt a year. I'm a crane operator so I don't get to take much time off of work and there is no such thing as vacation days. There are however a lot of layoffs and time between projects so I use that time to hunt or fish for whatever happens to be in season and here in MO there is always something to shoot,find,or catch.
I am trying to time my projects where I have the whole month of September off to travel and hunt. It's hard when you have to plan 12-18 months out.

Trash canning the early WA season this fall. Three weeks up close and personal having deep, meaningful conversations with ID elk this year.

I always hope for 2 weeks. I think 10 days minimum if I am traveling. This year will be less just because I am doing my first Ironman the end of August. I'll let my wife pick one big trip with the group or several little ones solo (as always she is questioning if I should even be hunting). The little trips tend to be easier on the family, and I work 3 13's so it gives me more time overall in the field with out taking time off work if I stay local.

2 week Colorado elk hunt every year (9 days boots on the ground). I live on my families farm in Michigan so I have whitetail pretty much right outside my back door. Most of my stands are less than a 30 minute walk from my back door. There's also 4000 acres of state land a mile and a half away with lots of oaks, and orv trails. I work 12 hour shifts. 2 days on and 2 days off. I get a lot of time to chase whitetails with the family.
