It Drives Me Nuts

Postby Swede » 05 14, 2016 •  [Post 1]

I am talking about television advertising. It is painful in the best of times, but this is the political season and it nauseates me to hear all the crazy stuff that is coming out. In the best of times (pre and Post political advertising) I endure advertisements just to watch fragments of news that come between advertising blocks. I get sicker and sicker as I observe the drug advertisements. The fellow that wants to continue to take his two Aleve should see a doctor, and treat the cause of his pain rather than continuing to take an over the counter medication. Those two idiots that use K-Y jelly to fly through the air need to settle down and be a lot more private. Ditto to the gals wearing Depends. We all understand now, so pipe down. They really don't make your butt look that good. Car ads are over the top. Why not save some of their advertising dollars and improve those Nissans so they can live up to the hype?
All of that said, what bugs me the most is having to hear these wind bags running for political offices, ranging from city councilman to the president. It is bad enough hearing them say how much better my life will be if they are elected, but then I have to hear outrageous claims how they are already single handedly saving the world. They must think we are stupid. I vote as much to protect myself from some of them as I do to support any one.
PLEASE DO NOT USE THIS THREAD TO GIVE US YOUR OPINION ON WHICH POLITITION IS GOING TO SAVE US. MY STOMACH CAN'T HANDLE IT, ANYMORE AND RORY WILL HAVE TO DELETE IT ALL.

Let's not even bring up the 1/2 hour infomercials that are seemingly on every other channel nowadays. I know that if I don't bump my "T" level, do a BaZoomba fitness workout, get the book on how to flip houses "free", get a Shark mop (or any of the other bazillion products being advertised), I'm probably not gonna make it too far in life ;). I'm with you mister, the over the top dung on TV is jamming my circuits also.

Speaking of infomercials brings up another source of nausea, but I can switch channels when I get to those. It has been pleasant not see the Sham-Wow idiot for awhile. Is he still around?

What really bugs me is on dish, every channel has the advertisements synced with all other channels, so you can't jump to another channel when an ad is running, because that other channels has an ad running to.

Ditto. I completely agree. WaWhitey and I are in sync on this.

No TV. I use the cable company for internet access only. Never watch the boob tube. This will save your brain cells. It's funny, on the rare occasion I go into a sports bar, and the games are on, I catch myself wondering what "that" is. By the way, don't waste time with professional sports, either.

If you guy that avoid TV do it so you are not getting overrun with disgusting advertisements, be sure not to buy a magazine either. Even the ones that appeal to hunters have some pretty crazy stuff especially towards the back of the magazine.
My wife and I were discussing the prime time ads on TV the other day. We talked how we have become "climatized" to them somewhat, and how our moms would have blushed and turned off the TV. But the magazines are worse!

I really like the DVR. Commercials come on, I pause the TV and do something. Come back and zoom past the commercials. Although I rarely watch anything but sports and a few hunting shows. my kids love the game warden shows which I guess aren't just too awful bad other than they over do everything.

Now one exception is Alone on the history channel. Have any of you watched it? If not, go to the History channel on the internet and watch a few episodes. They take 10 people, give them a few tools and a camera and dump them off on Vancouver Island. Longest person there wins half a mil. No human contact. Build your shelter, gather your own food. It is a neat show and for us outdoorsmen, it is right down our alley. I would love to see one of our own on this show sometime!

dont be knocking my Aleve. :)

my colorful youth has left me a squeaky, tattered man. my shoulders and knees have face the brunt of my fun. Aleve is a great anti-imflamatory. and just reducing the inflamation goes a long way to reducing pain. real pain. i dont think it masks it as much as it makes it go away.

i'm considering swapping to a lefty bow just to stay in the hunt longer.

commercials in general annoy me, but i DVR everything and fast foward when i had a TV. now? i moved in a temp apartment and i have no TV. it's all good.

DVR/Tivo is the way to go can watch what you want when you want and more of the intended content in far less time. One hour shows in 40 min and 30 min shows in about 20 min. It's awesome and the strangest thing to me is that sometimes when fast forwarding I actually see a commercial that catches my eye and enjoy it instead of cringing as in the past. As far as all the political adds - non-existent for me. Though lately watching the "news" is just a joke anymore...
