Weasel ID, just for fun

It's quite possible to bump into several or more of these members of the weasel family during a trip to the elk woods. Can you name them all?

#11 black and white critter is a stripped skunk
#9 little one in the prairie dog hole is a black footed ferret
10. the little pretty one with the long white spots is sometimes called a polecat
but for some reason the pics arent showing up

The name of ermine was slipping my mind, but knew it when I looked it up. Here I was thinking from the title that it was going to be hard, like short-tail vs long-tail, etc. That I would flunk.

I have seen a few of those guys in the wild.

Use to have a no-name creek we fished in VA that we named otter creek because of all the otters that lived in it.

Would love to see a wolverine some day.

Ermines are neat little critters. I was lying on a rocky ledge freezing to death couple decembers ago, longbow in hand, hoping to ambush a late season bull. Didnt work out, but had an ermine hop by a couple feet from my face. Made every cold minute worth it. Its the little things that happen while hunting that make the biggest impressions on me. Its not all about the hero shot.

5 Alaskan $450 I dont htink there has ever ben much of a swing on price. The only fur that doesnt hold frost
6 two years ago western $125.. ( now $25.00) Blame Oboma
7. Mn average Red River bucks $50.00 average,.. now $6.00 Mink bought my first two homes in the 80's
8. taxidermy specimen Maybe $. 5.00
Striped skunks $2-4.00 in the mid- late 70's they bought me a lot of gasoline at a high price of $5.00 each
Blackfooted ferrets, 10 years in the poky
Pole cates. $1.00 -$5.00

I have most of these furs for the firearm safety class I teach. I always trick the kids with the first one....it is an ermine (while white) and weasel (when brown). Then they always ask me why it has two different names and I always reply, "I have no idea!".
