Pop can stove

Am I missing something here. I've been using one of these for 5 years. No issues. Highest I've used it is 9800 feet tho.

Fun easy and cheap to make. Ive made then in the past with boyscouts

Only we made then with Shasta rootbeer and Mt Dew cans

They suck in cold weather....other then that for simple summer trips they work pretty good ! Nothing crazy but they do work and weigh nothing

Ok. Makes sense. It takes heat to get the gas to evaporate so it will work properly. I have never used mine past archery season. I just didn't understand why someone would pay over a hundred dollars for a stove when this one works for a lot less money. Mine only cost the 10 cent deposit on the can.

What I like is that you can run it in the winter with no problems and you don't waste fuel waiting for the gases to heat up. The felt acts like a wick so as soon as you light it it's ready to boil.

It's neat. So is flint and steel but I prefer a Bic lighter. I like pushing the button on the piezo ignition and hearing poof hisssssssss. Plus the stoves such as Jetboil get the job done in a fraction of the time. When I'm really whooped I care about that. As far as the cost I don't really think about lighting hundred dollar bills on fire if I want something for elk hunting. I hunt a lot so if I break the cost down over time it's nothing.

Question: What do you do when you're done if you still have fuel in the bottom of a can stove? It looks like the one in the picture is working really well I'll give you that.

I love to make stuff so this was a great idea, I thought! I shopped for the perfect cans -------. End of story, it didn't work. Back in Alabama in my garage it was great. At 11,000' at near freezing with the wind blowing it was a joke. After hunting all day and coming back to camp cold, hungry ,and half sick from altitude , it didn't take long to develop an attitude towards that thing. My buddy had his food done in a couple of minutes with a Jetboil . I had a Jetboil before I got home.

Thanks for the info guys. I definitely wont be taking mine with to do a late season hunt. Never occurred to me the cold would effect it that much.

I.S. after you use it a couple of times you know how much fuel to add. Once the water starts to boil. I take off my pot and the stove goes out in under a minute.
