Land ownership Where do you hunt!

Postby Lefty » 04 26, 2016 •  [Post 1]

In the past I have hunted on tribal reservations, National Grasslands, Department of the Interior National forest , State trust lands,BLM, Fish and game lands . I use to trap mostly private lands. In many areas I would go to the court house to find county lands, which often we as good as private ground. or public land with access through private ground

Hunting the desert for years I was hunting BLM, private, and National Monument, wilderness and wilderness study designated lands.
Last season I exclusively hunted BLM and National Forest.
What is your hunting grounds?

I get on some BLM and other public lands, but mostly U.S. Forest Service lands.

Mostly NF land. Used to hunt some private timber land (gated roads) in WA state till they went to the pay to play fee a few years back. Yep, I guess it's all NF land now :D

National Forest/Mostly Wilderness areas. Many years ago,I hunted the Jicarilla Reservation NM . Trespass few was $20 for 2 deer. It's $3000 + now I think. About that time, I did once pay $20 to hunt private land.

Before I even apply for a tag I find the public land that looks like it will hold the game I'm after. Most often its USFS, BLM, and State lands. Occasionally I'll hunt National Refuge, BOR, and US Army Corps. There's plenty of public out there, can imagine having to knock on doors to find a place to hunt out west. It was a different story when I lived in Wisconsin.

In GA it is private land that we manage QDMA.
Also have done WMA quota hunts in GA and Federal Quota on Cumberland and Wassaw Islands of the coast of GA.
NF and open WMA hunts in GA are a Zoo, no way I am getting in that mess, a fellow could get killed.

My only hunt out west it was NF land.

I use to do old school , Down at the county. It is surprising how much public and county land there was in Southern Minnesota.
We found a few big bonus places to hunt, One was were the city was going to build an airport. And county and state gravel pits, even when they werent digging

I also hunt from my Millennium tree stands. Stringunner has also found them to be superior to the ones he has used in the past. :D
