Elk Calling Practice Threads?

Anybody interested in having me get one of these going? We've done them in past years and members seemed to enjoy them. It works like this:

We do this in three phases (listed below). This is a practice thread, designed to make all of us dust off our reeds and practice a bit and perhaps, have a better chance at success during Phase III. There will no rhyme or reason to some of these sounds (sometimes no nametag to the kind of sound it is) but more so, just a sound that will force us to work on tongue pressure, air flow, tone, and timing.

1. Phase I - I'll post up an elk sound (man made) and WT members try to mimic it and post up their sound. Comments are encouraged from anybody, including the top notch callers, but it's more about the practice than anything else. This will be a time to give our reeds a workout and try to get various sounds out of them. We'll run Phase I for a while, perhaps throwing up a new sound every week or so.

2. Phase II - I'll post up some real elk noise clips and we'll do our best to try and mimic them and post those recordings up. We can run a few of these right up till wapiti season.

3. Phase III - We all call in elk this fall, using what we've practiced and became better at

I know we all can't attend a professional calling seminar so I thought perhaps this is a good way to practice, and, perhaps get some constructive recommendations on how to improve our calling.

I just use my IPhone voice recorder to record a clip, rename it, and send it to an email address. From my email, I'll do the "save as" thing with the attachment/sound file (to a folder on my desktop). From there, you can start a post in a thread and add the clip as an attachment (Upload Attachment button). That works well for me. I've also recorded some clips on SoundCloud and just placed a link to the sound in the thread.

One of the biggest bulls I've called in my Dad and I both thought it was a Holstein (area with lots of cattle) and we just thought we better make sure and man are we glad we gave him a chance. Didn't tag him, but made a memory I'll never forget.

After last year I decided I dont need to get any better, I had elk respond every day, no matter how bad I sounded ,.......

One day I talked back and forth with a spike and watched his reactions. I was surprised of all the weird vocalizations he made. And most of them I was able to copy quite well, eventually,,,, I was surprised of the sounds those two bulsl tolerated ,.. but maybe it was my calling that kept the 6x6 in the heavy cover 70 yards away

Another day I heard a guy on a cow call,.he sounded terrible. I was surprised someone had walked up hill that far that day. Ended up being a yearly calf that didnt shut up
