SPAM The Original meaning

Postby Lefty » 04 17, 2016 •  [Post 1]

A friend brought some along on ou5r BSA campout last weekend. He fried some SPAM up , It didnt taste as bad as I thought it tasted for the past 30 years.

As a kid, my dad always made SPAM sandwiches. I was bold enough to buy a can for setting out bear baits. Again it tasted much better than I remember.
Lets here some SPAM stories Or horror stories.

Ahhh... Who doesn't like SPAM! SPAM Musubi is my favorite way to eat it:

The SPAM museum is on the way from our house to our cabin, one of these trips I'm going to stop and check it out.

Although it is advertised that Spam is only made from the best parts of a pig, I have a neighbor that worked in the plant that made it and hotdogs. His advice is you don't want to know what goes into it as it is what is left over. The phrase lips and a$$holes came to mind. I keep a can of it in camp all the time. It has been used to lengthen a tent pole a might or level up a table..However,by and large when it comes time that I need to open up the can to eat,it is time to go home. To me,it is one step worse than eating that garbage in the plastic bags that you just add hot water to.. I don't eat hot dogs either.

It's too salty for my taste but growing up my father brought it every time we went camping or backpacking. I could eat it under those circumstances but I haven't had it in years.

As far as the dehydrated meals, I have to disagree. I think they are pretty decent. Maybe it's because I am comparing them to my own cooking.

As a kid we went camping/fishing up river. We always brought apples, potatoes and a few cans of Spam if the fish were not biting. Almost always brought the Spam back home for next year.

Every time I see spam I think of "50 first dates", I love that dumb movie! I love spam too, I have only tried the original kind though.

I get a hankering for some thinly sliced fried spam once in a while. It's almost as good as a couple of fried link sausage links on buttered bread ;)

Dean, let's not forget about the original tribute to spam from the Python crew :D
